Eyyy..... how come? An R8 Audi? yes

    +1

id rather get a used a Scuderia or MP4.

A 2014 model with slightly more than 15k km for 105k EUR and 4 years warranty (one year factory plus three years used car warranty) from a local (I am tired of driving 80 or even 170 km to the next dealer) dealer? Where? Smiley

Relax, guys. I really like this car but I don't think I will do it. This is still a lot of money and I'm not so sure how well this model will keep it's value since this is not the last V10 in a R8. A friend actually told me to wait another two years or so until the first used "new" R8 show up on the used car market because prices of older R8 will drop further.

Reasoning makes absolutely sense - but keep in mind that even on that car you will have a high loss. The R8 is known to have a high depreciation.

That used Scuderia or Gallardo at least will keep its value better.

Christian, I also feel that itching lately, can you please show me your bank account. smiley

but hornestly I would only consider the spyder of the R8 V10. I think this is the real future classic and looks so much better.

Agree on that, too! The Spyder is very gorgeous and rare. And yes - it seems to be a classic.

Re: Dammit...the itching started again (Audi R8 V10 Plus)

I would get it RC. You will incur minimium depreciation, the main hit has been taken and it's a fantastic car, much better looking than the new one. More curvy. You will have all what you loved about the 911 turbo but with more character.

Best thing on this car is engine sound, the V10 is a master piece on this regard, still a Gallardo is the way to go ;)

You are right but looking at the financials, I think I am going to pass. Also with the hope that the prices may go down further in 2016.

@Lars: The 430 Scuderia is out of my price range right now and I doubt that a Gallardo will keep it's value. Also, the R8 gets a total of 4(!) years full warranty, which I cannot ignore.

Relax, guys...I won't get it, I cannot take a financial risk just to be happy for some weekends but I really liked the idea and I cannot remember wanting a (used) car more than this (R8 V10 Plus) one, it kind of tickled all my senses, can't explain why. Maybe because of the fantastic sounding engine?! Smiley

One day, I will get a R8 V10 Plus or maybe even a Gallardo as a weekend toy but it isn't now I'm afraid. Smiley

So stash away the popcorn, maybe next time. SmileySmiley

I did a quick check at mobile.de, there are more 2014er V10 Plus in this price range available. Almost all have the 3 years warrenty extention. That's standard für cars with "Qualitätssiegel: Audi GW:plus".

So be patient. There will be more (maybe better) offers in the next 18 months.

RC - if you get it we will all look the other way just one more time.  Personally I have seen and HEARD that V10 and it blows away even the Ferrari V12 sound and is way better sounding than the Gallardo (not certain why).  But it is a glorious car and one I would get after I sell my Turbo.  Seriously, it will be my next car.  My price point is around 80K USD.

Can i get some of that?

I do not plan to give away my C4 GTS Cab and the other cars are out of the question (family cars). The Shelby GT500 will also stay with me, the Audi dealer offered 80k EUR (he first offered 60k but after my (played) outrage and making some calls, he apparently found a dealer who was highly interested in my car) but after thinking about it and asking my son as well (he loves the Shelby), it was a no go. I never planned to give away the Shelby but I was interested how much I would get for it. Not bad, considering that I already have almost 7000 km with that car and it is one year old.

I decided to pass on that R8. A friend who is in the used car business said that we may see more used R8 V10 Plus next year when leased cars will be available on the market. The V10 Plus was introduced in 2012 but many lease contracts were made, according to him, in 2013. So 2016 may actually be the year to go for such a car. Let's wait and see. The advantage was that the car is already available, I test-drove it and the dealer is local, so I do not have to drive around and dealers always prefer customers who bought local.

Long story short: Maybe next year. Smiley Smiley

Smiley A friend who is in the used car business told me to wait until 2016, so I will wait (not that I could afford getting that V10 Plus now but it was very tempting, especially after the very convincing test drive...engine feels amazing, sound is even more amazing). What got me a little bit thinking was the 80k EUR offer for my Shelby but only for a couple of minutes, I will keep this car, it is too much fun and it sounds amazing. Also, my son loves this car, he would never forgive me. Smiley

in all honesty between the shelby and the Audi i would definitely go for the Audi. i understand the charms of the shelby and yes, it is hard to compare the Audi and the shelby as they are too different in character.

nevertheless, for me it would not need a decision, the Audi for sure. then again, i have my issues with american cars. maybe i just sat in too many of them while they were still total rubbish.

you have made your decision and if it makes you feel good that is all one needs to care about kiss

The Shelby GT 500 has a certain appeal which is difficult to describe (do you still have your Cobra?). I always dreamt of an AC Cobra but was never able to afford one. Even replicas have ridiculous prices. So the GT 500 is the closest thing and yes, it rattles and makes weird noises and the build quality is far away from my C4 GTS Cab but still, driving this car is a lot of fun and the sound it makes...oh well... Smiley I won't even start with performance because for the money I paid, the Shelby is just ridiculously fast (my Shelby eats the R8 for breakfast on the Autobahn Smiley).

It was never the question....Shelby or R8. I wanted to add the Audi to my so called "car collection" (which so far only has one car in it and probably will never grow because the future in my business isn't too bright Smiley), not replace the Shelby with it. Right now, this is not possible but maybe, who knows, maybe next year (depends on the stock markets and/or if I win the lottery Smiley). Smiley

Stick with the Shelby RC, makes no sense to have a 991 GTS and an R8 IMHO... Personally I would ditch both the Mustang and the GTS and get a California (probably T for you since you need the extra hp for the autobahn), but your kids might be too big for that...

    1. The California is nice (the T not so much, I don't like the sound) but A. it would suck in winter time in Bavaria and B. I couldn't drive to work in it. I also doubt that Ferrari would offer me the same lease deals I get from Porsche. Smiley

    2. The R8 V10 Plus and the GTS Cab would make a lot of sense (two completely different cars).

    3. The Shelby is a keeper (for now) because it is special (for me and my son).

I only have the AP, the Rolex and the TAG Heuer. Total value, if I sell them, around 40k. So if you are willing to jump in for the remaining 65k, I'd appreciate it. Smiley Smiley

yup....still have the cobra....and its not going anywhere.....its a crazy car (if you can call it a car)

therefore i understand why you want to keep the shelby. but in essence i would recommend you build a 1965 fastback from scratch from a donour car. like the shelby and then you have the ultimate mustang.

the cool looks and image of the 1965 era and the good driveability and performance of the current gt500.

surely that is not cheap but it is very special. just like the cobra is. but the modern driveline handles and drives better than the cobra which is always in manic mode.

back to the topic....personally at this point i would chose an R8 over a 911 indecision hope that doesnt complicate things further.

It would still be difficult to achieve the drive feel of the 2014 GT 500 (my mechanic is the Mustang and Shelby specialist in Germany and I love how honest this guy is and how many amazing projects he has done in the past).

surely that is not cheap but it is very special. just like the cobra is. but the modern driveline handles and drives better than the cobra which is always in manic mode.

The 911 I will keep as my daily driver and daily fun car. I plan to keep the GTS. The R8 would have been another toy for weekends but I will wait, maybe I get a better opportunity in winter time. The dealer has already lowered the price twice, so maybe... Smiley

Two completely different cars, this is why they would complement each other pretty well.

The V10 Plus sound is amazing, very Lamborghini like (apparently you can also "tweak" the exhaust flap control... Smiley). The GTS sounds like a 911 should sound, this is a very throaty sawing sound, I just love it too.

The R8 feels like a supersportscar, the GTS feels like a go-kart, I love both.

Also, the R8 is fully loaded (LED headlights, ceramics, carbon stuff, red stitching, B&O sound system, etc.) and it is a 2014 car with the latest tech and updates (facelift is of course newer). I still think it is a very good offer, especially since the dealer is local and the 4 years warranty is an icing on the cake but maybe I'll wait until winter time, in the hope that I could get the car for under 100k (new price tag 181k).

I drove an R8 Cab with V10 and Manual gearbox and it's one of my best drives in recent memory.  I never expected to like it as much as I did.  The motor is so free revving (feel like the flywheel weighs nothing) and that gated manual was a dream (better than the gated manual in my Ferrari 550 by far).
