    Thanks Andrea,
I personally think that the 5.3 sec for the acceleration time of the Cayman S is more political than anything else.
FWIW, it should be about as fast as the regular Carrera, don't you guys think?
    I could be wrong.
Depends how much lighter it is compared to the Boxster.
490hp is nice, but it'll be much heavier than the 430 so the match should awesome!
And 550 hp for the GT2! Sweet!
All this to be confirmed of course!
    Thanks for the link!

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

I agree with fanch 5.2 must be political. Cayman S if not 0.1 or 0.2 faster than based Carrera it will be as fast as the base 997.

You would think it should/would be lighter and faster than a Boxster S/Base 911......but who knows. From what I have read it took a lot of reengineering to get the whole thing to come together, so while it might be an excellent drivers car, it might not be the light weight, back to the basics type of car we were thinking it would be. It could weigh just as much as a Boxster or more depending on what Porsche did with it. Porsche usually doesn't BS numbers most of the time. Maybe the Club Sport will be the light weight.

I thought the one advantage of the 911 with the engine over the rear wheels was that it helped with acceleration. So it might not be political at all.

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

    Rough translation.....

"Only at the end of of 2006 is to be after-pushed a more favorable version with a modified boxing he engine with 280 HP"

What a croc (excuse the pun). How can you come out with an S version of something that isn't even out yet? I'm starting to think Porsche walked backwards through this whole project......from name to price. I gather they want to see how many will fall for the S version first before they release what most wanted in the first place....

Very good point, the engine on the rear axle, gives it enormous traction off the start.

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

Most 987 Boxster S road tests show a 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds. So either the Cayman is heavier than we thought or does/will have a bit of a traction problem.

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

Anybody else think the sport exhaust's tail pipes look weird? can't make them out ...

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

Yes it looks weird but not ugly.
Not as bad as the fake double overlapping exhaust the 996Mk2 had!
And at least, it's an indication that the car has it, just in case you'd be deaf!

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

    Looks wierd and fake.

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

Power numbers for Turbo seems fair, for the GT2 they're a bit higher than I was expecting from Porsche which is good. 550 Turbo powered Hp and 2wd is the way to go

Both cars have more than enough traction at the rear wheels to prevent excessive wheelspin on takeoff. Unless there is a wheelspin problem, the weight distribution is a non-issue for acceleration times.

How about that the 911 has larger tires in the rear compared to the Cayman. Would that be an advantage?

If there were wheelspin it would be an advantage because the larger contact area would increase traction, reducing the wheelspin. If there is already enough traction to control wheelspin, increasing tire size would not offer any advantage (speaking strictly of acceleration times here). It would actually be a disadvantage to have a tire size larger than necessary to handle the engine's torque on takeoff; it would just be extra weight.

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

I wouldn't trust this information too much (although it seems pretty logical), Autobild created a lot of confusion with their Cayenne facelift "info" and "picture" a few months ago. The confusion was so big that even Porsche dealers were completely shocked and discussions at "higher levels" at Porsche were going on too because of the Autobild "news". A little hint: the Cayenne showed on the picture had 911 front lights.

    Re: Porsche news cayman - gt3 - turbo - gt2

    ...when's the 997 turbo-cab available again???

This is exactly what Porsche did with the Cayenne...

There should be wheelspin (for RWD) if you launch with high rev.
