Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Just a quick question how many people on here have the following on there 06/07 Boxster-s cars or other Box models

Windows go down with out any key fob being touched at random ? , Sat Nav that is missing major UK towns and post codes ? We are now just 7 days away from handing back a 2007 model 3.4 because as Porsche GB have stated there is no fix for the faults !! great customer service !! ( Not the dealer i must add they have given there all ) Trading Standards have also taken this one on board as it is we are told not the first time
What a shame a great little car is so badly assisted by Porsche at Pounds50 K you would think they would make the effort ? also seen similar issues posted somewhere else on the board but cannot find the details ? any info welcome.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

my windows go down sometime randomly when the car is off. Its really annoying, but i know complaining is going to be futile.

this Saturday, the windows went down when i was parked outside the factory and a whole bunch of sand and wood carvings flew inside the car. the interior looked like a carpenters shop when i got in.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Weird, that's never happened with my 2005 S.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

    maybe its a 06+ problem

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

never happened on my 07 987S

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

I am told Porsche have known about this on Porsche Cars for about 18 mths but have kept quite about it as a design floor and are now telling dealers to disable or Not enable comfort closure on the Boxster and 911 and hope no one notice's !! it is also at random not all cars have the problem they then try to use the excuse that yu must have had the key fob depressed ( yes that totally useless design on the keyfob that insurance Companies are moaning about and are now starting to adjust insurance policies because of them) but we have windows going down even when the car is parked up and keys put in a draw !! so this is a design fault or electronics fault on the system , i am told by an auto electrician that it is more likely a module fault in the system linked to the alarm system from Cobra that would be a massive recall to fix on all its cars if that is the case Or it is a wiring loom design flaw that would be near impossible to fix with a car strip down.

Pathan on your 07/ 987s are your comfort windows working from your key fob ?

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

An easy fix is available which I had done by my dealer. Just disable the keyfob comfort opening/closing facility for the windows. This can be done in 5 minutes by a technician at your P dealer using the PIWIS terminal. I have never had windows that go down by themselves.

Ask yourself one simple question: how often do you operate the windows and sunroof from outside the car? I don't and never will.

Sure, P should have designed the keyfob properly to begin with. Shame on them BUT the fix is in reality no sacrifice at all since I wouldn't use that comfort opening/closing facility anyway...

    Just my 2 cents...

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

its got nothing to do with the key fob see above keys locked in a draw anf they still go down, as for me on my 911 use comfort closure at least once a day if not more during the summer

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Sorry tboner - perhaps I didn't explain myself properly.

The point I was making is that the faulty lowering of windows happens even though you did not use the comfort opening/closing facility on your key fob when the malfunction occurred.

The mere fact that you have 'enabled' this facility is enough for the windows to malfunction in this way even though you have not caused the windows to lower by inadvertent use of the keyfob. If you disable this function via the PIWIS terminal, you should (hopefully) see a change!

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

FWIW, I think the windows lower themselves mysteriously because of a control module fault.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Sorry to hear about your probs Tboner - I never had these failures though my car is suffering from the well known greasy side windows disease...

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Porsche-Jeck, the side window grease is annoying! I have had the dealer fix it a couple of times and it always comes back over time.

The window going down on their own, I have not experienced this but that really stinks! That is a serious issue.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

No issues with my 06 model with the comfort features enabled.

Sorry to hear the problems, you are doing the right thing rejecting the car - i assume PCGB are offering a replacement of comparable spec, or to rush an order through for you ?

Same experience over here - it seems that there is no reasonable repair method unless they virtually dismantle the entire door and replace the complete mechanism
The chief mechanic in the P-shop frankly admitted that it's a botched design which already existed with the 996 series Though there is some hope for you if you're planning the car to become a keeper: they told me that the grease will go away after 3 years or so (according to their experiences with the 996). At least it's not so much of a prob during summer (seems to appear more during humid weather conditions).
Sometimes I'm really wondering how such botched designs persist for a decade without somebody taking care for a re-design

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Porsche Cars GB Response in writing

"Sorry we have no fix for these problems"
"Take it up with your dealer your contract is with them"

I am also told that OPC's have now been told not to enable Comfort Closure on cars INC 911's and Caymans unless it is requested by the customer !! Does this not tell you that they know they have a major problem but do not want to can not be bothered to sort out there problems.

The dealer has done there all so i think it will be PCGB who in the end will have to sort out the refund which by law will include loss's incurred Inc full armoufend and body prep another Pounds900 to add to the Pounds49,765

Think they are in for a shock if they think this one is going away under the carpet
Well done PCGB !! Only spent Pounds225K in the last 12 Mths with them/ there franchise dealer ? But no more if that is there attitude they sound more like Aston Martin each week ! And maybe there quality of service and build is heading the same way , do not listen to customers look at the sales figures that's all they are bothered about ? News like this gathers pace on the net is very difficult to keep quite.
Maybe they can learn from Audi now they own it about building a car and sorting out problems instead of ignoring them.

As is said once a reputation is lost it is twice as hard to get it back and the value of the cars plummet

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

The grease bugs the crap out of me.

As for the key fob opening the windows--I've never been able to get that to work--I didn't know that feature actually existed on the 987.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

The comfort feature for the windows is disabled at factory now due to the inadvertent activation when in pockets etc. The fault of the windows lowering themselves is just that, a fault but it seems PCGB aren;t playing ball which is a dissapointing shame.

Regarding the window grease, there is a fix. OPC's are now told to remove the door card and membrane and fix the window pad that's in contact with the glass. It seems that the pad occasionally gets in contact with the window motor arm and so collects the grease on activation.

As to whether you're happy with the OPC's dissassembling the door trim (do you really think they replace all those one-time fasteners?) and risk messing up the replacement of the membrane is up to you but i think i can handle a quick wipe down of the glass before some OPC runt gets his hands on my car.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Its taken them 10 years to acknowledge the RMS issue in the UK, what makes you think they are going to react differently to the other faults

Thye will only take note when people spend their money elsewhere - good luck with getting a refund, they will no doubt not cover the armorfend as that was your choice, and they will no doubt adjust for the age and mileage, however minimal

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

My 07 Boxster S 3.4 has the PCM navigation and works faultlessly, as did the same system in my 05 Boxster. To say the navigation fault can't be fixed is BS. It can only be the DVD navigation map disc or the PCM unit itself, both of which can obviously be replaced. Ask your dealer for a replacement disc first (simplest fix if that's where the fault lies) and see if it makes any difference - they must have at least one Boxster / 997 / Cayenne with navigation that you can borrow a disc to try.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

They have tried 8 Cars at the OPC and a car at the PCGB all have the same fault they say the fault may be solved in Sepetmber on the sat Nav with new software after the August factory shutdown in Germany.
They are obliged to cover the cost of both body prep and armourfend or replace with like for like on a new car

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

as faults were reported with just 71miles on the clock they are we are told cannot adjust for mileage or use as they have not rectified the faults , see Aston Martins case thrown out of court 2 years ago for tryng the same idea since then they can only adjust if outside of the first 30 days of the cars handover

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

now had 5 off board e-mails from people with 06 + cars with the same problems on the windows . why they will not post on here i do not know !

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

Mine used to do that with the passenger side window. The fix is simple and is something that the factory tests for before they leave but they can slip through the cracks (as yours has and mine did).

This is what's wrong... it's the molding in the top or frame of the windshield. I had the same exact problem, but I had the fortune of discovering it the day I went back to the factory for a tour. I mentioned it to my Porsche customer delivery specialist and so he took the car back to the factory line. He called me in 5 min and said, "great news, one of the engineers knows exactly what's wrong, the bad news is it will take about 45min to fix, is that ok?"

He explained that this is something that is common and that they test for at the factory. In my case it did it about every 5 tries, and only when I auto upped the window hence why they missed it during QA. But sometimes it would do it consistently and it only developed on the 2nd day of ownership. For us it was on the passenger side window.

Check when you "roll" the window up, do you rock the button up past the click to have it auto up or do you push and hold? Try rolling the window up by not clicking the up button, just hold it until it stops. If that works then this is certainly what's wrong.

Now, another possibility is that you need to reprogram the stop position of the window. Look on page 29 of your owner's manual for the section in bold titled "Storing end position of the windows". Try this first before telling them about the molding. Essentially what's going on is that the anti-crush protection sensor is pinching the molding, detects that it might have crushed something, like a finger and auto returns to release what ever it might have crushed.

Yeah, I'm so glad I caught this at the factory. When they told me what was wrong I knew it would be a pain in the ass to have it fixed at a dealer in the states... especially since it wasn't 100% repeatable. I'm so sorry for your pain and hope this helps.

Well the PCM navigation in my September 06 build, 07 model car works fine after a fashion. The post code search is pathetic, it is only a partial post code search. For example with "SO15 OHH" you can only enter "SO15" then have to select "0" from a list and the corresponding list of streets from another list. Unlike the Alpine system that is standard in my Honda Civic where you can type the entire post code in and get the street you want straight away.

So I don't believe it is a software problem - otherwise it wouldn't work in my car with presumably the same software.

Re: Windows up and down and sat nav faults

That is fantastic information. That totally makes sense and I hope this helps everyone out that has the issue. These types of problems are very difficult to deal with and it drives all of us crazy when we take our cars to the dealer and it is not fixed correctly.
