Kreso, I agree. The 458 combines super performance with everyday driving. However, if you are considering only sport car performance, then you must consider the GT3RS and the GT2RS.

You might think I am nuts but a car like the GT2RS is the by far better daily driver than a 458. The RS is also faster and more fun... The Ferrari on the other hand has this special design and sound and a nice auto gear-box. Each will find it's buyers Smiley Different cars for different people Smiley

For suspension set-up and stock tyres used, a Porsche gt2  RS is not a better daily driver than a 458. For these reason is faster on a dry track than a 458.  Check Sport auto wet handling lap time ....  Smiley

The thing is: I am just reporting about my personal experiences with using these cars as daily drivers Smiley

At least if used in Germany, the GT2/GT2RS has a very comfortable (for a sportscar) suspension setup in normal mode. Also, the tires are no problem - unless it is poring with rain, in which case you cannot drive any sportscar fast anyhow due to massive acquaplaning risk. BTW, how many 458 on winter tires did you see during the snowy period of the year? No problem with GT2/GT2RS either.

Most people are just repeating stereotypes when talking about "daily usability of a car". If you try it out it is often a completely different story Smiley GT2/GT2RS rules all the way down.

Re: Autobild Sportscars edition Ring comparison

I agree that other than snow, most cars can be daily driven just fine assuming that they have enough space for carrying what you typically need. You could even do fine in snow if you bought snow tires.

The idea of exotics being poor DD's is gone. You can DD almost all of them hassle free. I don't think a GT2RS would be any better or worse than a 458 in anything other than long distance comfort. For running a few errands or going to the market, I'm sure they are almost identical.

Re: Autobild Sportscars edition Ring comparison

All round visibility is another issue. Very bad in a mid-engined car especially in heavy traffic and bad weather.

Imagine being in foul weather, with other traffic throwing spray against your screen etc. If you happen to be in a sportscar there nothing better than a 911.

    Well,
I respect personal experiences but we may face facts .
First PASM (as other similar carmaker system) operates only modifying shocks settings but not car’s stiffness to ground (given by springs flexibility and front and rear bars) doesn’t change. Difference between normal and sport mode is not so important as in a normal carrera or turbo that have lower stiffness to ground. I’m in automotive suspension field and my company sells similar products for other sportcars …..Smiley
Second, none is writing about snow conditions that are exceptional. Daily conditions means rain (and with 600 hp you don’t need to go fast to see the rear of the car trying to overtake the front when aderhence is very low) traffic, broken road etc so I am a bit surprise that you judge a 458 less daily usable than a GT2/GT2 RS.
No fully automatic gearshift mode (instead a high pedal clutch effort) no front lift system, DOT track tyres wich reduct performance with rain or under 7° degrees …. Smiley

Anyway also my Lotus elise 111s Mk1 with lotus sport suspension option and Yokohama tyres is daily usable except when it'raining (soft top roof leaks), when it's hot (no air conditioned thermal or insulation from engine bay) when it's cold (tyres), when road is not perfect (she doesn't love drains) ecc .... if you accept all that and the fact you can pick up only one girl a time ......
    What's for a cayenne ?
    Cheers

Re: Autobild Sportscars edition Ring comparison

I drove my 914/6 with 908 cams, headers (no heat), race buckets, and close to a full race suspension (coil-overs, rose joints ect) and r-rated tires as a daily driver (outside of when there was snow or I knew it was going to snow) for almost 3 years. I would have to put my coat on backwards to keep me warm when it was cold as I couldn't fit in the race seats with a winter coat on but it was too cold to not wear one.

In my mind, any of these cars are perfectly fine daily drivers. They're all palatial luxury compaired to that 914!

As for driving in the cold or the rain with r-rated tires (or in a super-car in general), I only have two thinsg to say; go slower and learn some car control! It's not really hard...

Yes, you can do all that, but it is a little bit extreme Smiley
