    That's the umphteenth time I've seen guys drive R8's like baboons in the rain! Quattro only does so much.

    Mid-engined cars are not very good in the wet anyway. Not enough weight on the axles and the mid-weight distribution helps rotation.

    Also the huge tyres modern sports cars wear help aquaplaning a lot.

    AWD in anything other than a heavy SUV is not a lot of help in standing water. We've had a highway crash in a 996 C4S with perfect tyres; too much standing water on the road and you have lift off!

    He had some momentum too

    Deserves to lose his car and not be covered by insurance

    Well you are wrong. Sport Auto tested all sportscars on wet handling track. R8 was one of the fastest cars, over 3s faster for example then 997 Turbo. Much faster then any FWD car...

    In this specific case error is HUMAN. Sometimes there is too much machine for below average driver...

    Quattro and DSC cannot overcome physics.
    He should have threw in some opposite lock and floored it to get the car to spin the other way though. Worse thing you can do is lock the tires and just continue in a sideways drift.

    My point didn't refer to the R8 specifically but to any mid-engined car. In extreme wet with standing water there is not enough weight on the axle and traction is lost easier especially with the very wide tyres used by sports cars. This is in extreme contitions and of course in 99% of cases the ME car handles better due to its more favourable weight dynamics and low moment of inertia. However, even so, at the limit a ME car is more difficult to bring back once the driver loses it.

    This was a general remark not in order to explain the incident in the russian video which could have been caused by a bit more vodka than usual, perhaps

    I am not surprised that the Turbo is slower because from what I understand the Porsche AWD PTM system is not one of the best around.
