Re: Porsche Taycan Turbo S - Short Review

    Leawood911:

Thanks RC!  Your review makes perfect sense.
I would love the Porsche but I can’t afford spending that much - just had my first grand child born last Tuesday and all my spare money will further the next generations. Lol.
I am also a huge fan of the rubber band power and it’s crazy useable. You may find the little Model 3 performance fits many of the things you liked. For me it is 100% useable as here charging and range are not an issue. It seems I get all the things you liked most (acceleration, handling and fun to drive) minus some of the expensive porsche stuff I can’t afford or care much about. Keep in mind I still have a very fun 997 turbo.
So there is my challenge to you. I know your review has lots of comparisons to the ancient tech model s and its limited handling and frankly low volume build quality.  To be fair it may be fun to please drive the Model3 performance. I get it is not as expensive or plays in the same category BUT it will open your eyes as to how far Tesla has come with build quality, handling and really excellent performance and battery management.  You may be pleasantly surprised. There is a darn good reason Koenigsegg thinks it is the best daily driver.
And yes- all of you. I am ready for all the hateful name calling and death threats for daring to ask RC to give the Model3 a shot.   Bring it on. Lol.
thanks again RC. Your reviews are always the best

I drove the Tesla 3 Performance last year (a pretty late production car, so I don't think much changed) and quality is not at the same level with Porsche, sorry to say that. Actually, it is not at the same level with my Mercedes. However, it is on a higher level than most US cars I've driven lately (latest one was a 2020 Suburban, maybe not a good comparison). As a daily driver, I cannot imagine something better than my current GLC63 S AMG but I get what Koenigsegg is saying, especially if you look at the price tag of the Tesla 3 Performance.

I liked the Tesla 3 Performance a lot, I think I mentioned it before, one reason I wanted to give it a shot as a daily driver for my business. The GLC63 S has changed my opinion though but I really need the extra luggage room and the higher riding height (lots of snow usually where I drive to...not so much this year).

In general, at the current price tags, the Tesla models are very attractive in my opinion, especially compared to the European competition. A fully loaded Tesla S Performance is 116k EUR in Germany, incl. 19% VAT. This is a very attractive price for such a car, especially considering the fact that straight line performance is very similar to the Taycan Turbo S.

I am still thinking of getting a Model 3 Performance, just for fun but it doesn't really make sense. The lease rate is still pretty high (around 800 EUR per month, a Tesla S Performance would be around 1100). They were much higher before, so I guess Tesla came to their senses. Just for comparison: I recently got offered a special business lease deal for a brand-new fully loaded Audi RS3 for 520 EUR per month. 19% VAT included, no initial payment.

Re: Porsche Taycan Turbo S - Short Review

I did not realize they cost so much in Europe. I only paid $56k for mine in black. No sales taxes since I own a property in Oregon and titled it there (to 2023 for $400). (Sound of everyone going -Ahhh sooo)
The build quality in my car is way above average. It is the most solid car I have been in and I have been in quite a few expensive cars. Not like you guys but.  One thing to consider is that these are being returned to Tesla after leasing to be used in a robo taxi fleet.  While this may or may not work out I can’t think of any other makers who have plans to buy back all their leases. This tells me that they may be building them to a much higher standard - else they would welcome people buying out the leases. I bought mine after returning a lease. I’m like RC with leases and as they make sense but in this case I wanted to keep it. It may actually be my million mile car.
Thanks again for the kind words for Naomi Pearl.

Re: Porsche Taycan Turbo S - Short Review

Drove the Taycan turbo (non S) yesterday from my dealer - agree with all comments from RC. "in gear" acceleration and throttle makes you laugh - dealer also told me he had a few customers that got sick after 1 min  - however, my friend made a valid comment - after a couple of month the sensation might wear off real fast - and it's hard to drive at speed limits so we pass....and enjoy combustion still - I guess a 992 turbo S with boost would be comically fast

It never gets old but can make you sick and cause back pain etc.   A big plus is the silence when you do it which makes it very useable all of the time. You never feel like a reckless person going too fast. It just moves.

Yes, this is what my son mentioned as well (he remembers my 991.1 Turbo S experience very well) and...he got car sick in the Taycan Turbo S as well...and he never gets car sick. Smiley Smiley
