Maybe one of our talented users could do a photoshop job on the coupe ? Thank you.

I did a quick job, but it gives an idea... cheers!   Smileycabrio991.jpg

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Judging by the overwhelming enthusiasm on rennteam the production of the 991.1 must be sold-out for the next 4-5 years.

    Well done Porsche

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Don't judge by these latest official photos taken from ant's -eye level where even an econobox will look low ,squaty and aggressive - we've been teased for months with real world in -traffic spy pics, videos and in that context , the 991 looks rather more 997.3 than the transformative change from 993 to 996 , the last fundamental chassis change.

The car will feel/drive differently - that will be the focus here once we get real seat time.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

This photo doesn`t seem to be taken on ground-level

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

IMO opinion the car will be the most successful 911 ever. A major consideration will be the fact that 991 will be a friendlier 911 and  performance will be more accessible by a wider segment. You know there are people who buy AWD 911s in dry climates to feel more security and be more immune from the RWD handling (or so do they think)!

The new dynamics might  be anathema for a small number of hardcore drivers. They'd have to wait a bit longer for the more wild versions of the new model.

^ Cars usually look better from human eye-level view. It elongates the proportions and exaggerates the perspective. What Porsche did this time is produced a car beautiful from any angle or point of view. No worries about that...

LIFE IS MEASURED IN 911 ERA'S.

How fitting that the 997 aligned with my university years and this new 991 with my gradulthood. (graduated but not yet employed in the desired career field)

I LOVE THIS CAR SO MUCH! Much more clean and exciting than when the 997 came out.. and look what they did with that. Gave us the Turbo, GTS and magical GT3s. The future looks really bright. I expect more slight 918 sypder design references.

lol, exactly the same here... The day I graduate is more or less aligned with the first release of official 991 pictures, while I remember "lurking" on Rennteam for 997 spy pics during my first year at university. Smiley

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I am not so sure. The economy is not good and as I pointed along with others, the front end resemblance to the Boxster is uncanny. With money being tight even hardcore Porsche enthusiast will have a difficult time justifying trading in their 997's for the 991.

I have no doubt the 991 performance will be better than the 997 but the difference in styling and performance may not be enough for people to pull the trigger. FWIW, I showed my wife the 991 pictures and she asked what is the difference between it and her 997 Turbo. She could not tell the difference in styling.Smiley

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I bet non-car people cannot differentiate between a Modena a 430 a 458 or a Gallardo. They are all strange looking, impractical cars to them.

Therefore the 991 recognition factor is not very relevant in our discussion here. Having said that, everybody can tell it's Porsche 911, at least. This displays a unique personality.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I agree with you guys for the most part. To me, the 991 looks WORLDS different than the 997. Every single mm is different, and its very obvious. Still evolutionary though. But the fact is most non-car people won't be able to tell much of a difference.

But that's a good thing. If they can't tell much of a difference between the 993 and 991, but there is really almost a 20 year span between the design phases of the car, that just shows how astonishingly good Porsche is at evolutionary design!

That depends, coincidently I showed them to my wife yesterday and she said, wow, what a difference, much better than the 997, she specially liked the rear lights and front fascia, so...

These are hard times indeed but I think the 991 will still be very successful inspite of it. and more than the 997 in the long run since the 991 is a bigger junp evolution wise from the 997, than the 997 over the 996.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I do not like to post here anymore but just want to say one thing , this car is perfect !!!! So different than the 997. I still own a 993S and thought it would always be my number one design wise. It just became number 2.

I really can't wait to order one.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

In harder times Porsche could benifit because it's a more modest, "responcible" sports car, opposed to most of the other sports cars on the market which are much more flashy.

That says volumes about the buyer of a modern sports car. Sport-driving is optional; being seen on slow boulevard drives while playing with the electronic gizmos is all it matters. :)

My wife is a real car guy Smiley She can tell the differences between each model since the 964, every facelift ...

She has enjoyed the last couple of days as much as we all have ... she has been carefully studying every tiny contour, every tiny mm of the new 991 and she loves it Smiley

I'm not in the market for a 991 Carrera S but if I were, I'm sure I would have no trouble persuading her that it would be a good purchase SmileySmiley

But I'm keeping my powder dry for if/when I really need it SmileySmiley

The Boxster is a superb car. It is considered as a poor relative and snubbed at. Very wrongly IMO. I enjoy the 987 as much as the 997 for a fraction of the cost.

The Boxster deserves every snub it gets.  I don't fit well enough to drive it for more than a few minutes.  A Boxster/Cayman needs at least 5 more inches of room between the foot well and the firewall for my legs to have a small chance of fitting.

Ditto on the driving position, impossible for me. For a smaller individual, not sure I'd snub it. Frankly, I've been disappointed not to be able to really wring one out due to lack of pedal space.Smiley
