Porsche Sales Rise 7% in December
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced that its 2006 sales established a new historical record in North America. PCNA sold 36,095 cars in North America, an increase of 7 percent over 2005 when the company sold 33,859 cars. 2006 was the third consecutive record-breaking sales year of Porsche cars in North America.
The strength of Porsche sales in the U.S. and Canada was led by its sport car models, which saw an overall increase in sales of 30 percent in 2006. The mid-engine sports cars, Boxster and Cayman, totaled 12,163 for 2006, an increase of 46 percent. 911 sales set an all-time record with a 2006 total of 12,702.
For the month of December, PCNA sold 2,850 new cars in the United States (see chart below), on par with the previous year when sales were 2,861. For the year, PCNA also set another consecutive record in the United States, with sales of 34,227 cars compared to the previous high of 31,933 in 2005, an increase of 7 percent.
"2006's sales result is especially gratifying with the Cayenne in its fourth model year and the new one to be revealed next week at the Detroit Auto Show and then launched at dealerships in March," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President and CEO. "The strong momentum of our sports car sales sustained our continued growth, with the 911 enjoying its most successful sales year ever."
