I could afford a 911 (in cash, I never buy cars on finance) only when I reached 27. But I didn't want a 993 or 996.
However, I finally took the plunge at 36. I'm a lawyer in an investment bank.
I should also add, it took the 997 to make me take that step. It's the Porsche I always wanted. I'll bet there are plenty of people who, like me, are used to BMWs and Mercs who entered the Porsche family on the strength of the 997 but who may not have done so previously.

My first car was a 1980 Pontiac Firebird (I got it in 1985) (sans the big chicken decal on the hood). Valuable today? Probably not.
