    21 here

working as investment consultant for my family

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    I could afford a 911 (in cash, I never buy cars on finance) only when I reached 27. But I didn't want a 993 or 996.

However, I finally took the plunge at 36. I'm a lawyer in an investment bank.

I should also add, it took the 997 to make me take that step. It's the Porsche I always wanted. I'll bet there are plenty of people who, like me, are used to BMWs and Mercs who entered the Porsche family on the strength of the 997 but who may not have done so previously.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    I almost bought a 944 Turbo S when I was 18

Congratulations on Romania now being part of the EU, and on your soon to own 997 c4s.
(the 911 with the nicest hips).

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    35

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

I'm 26 and bought my first Porsche 3 months ago, 07 Carrera S coupe.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

Actually forgot to mention that the 997 is not my first Porsche. That would be a Boxster bought when I was 25. And none of my cars were financed by the folks.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

28 in the 997S last year. 23 in first porsche, boxster s. I just saw a young guy driving around a silver gt3. i'm jealous now.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

Geez, I feel old now too. I was 37 when I took delivery of my C2S, 39 now. But don't let the number fool ya, I'll snap any one of you whipper-snappers in two...

Here's a completely different twist to consider. If you guys find it compelling enough, let me know, and I'll waste a thread on it.. Here goes:

WHO HERE believes that, had they KEPT their first car, that TODAY it would be the most valuable "1st car" on the forum?

I ask that because, believe it or not, my first car that I "kinda bought" when I was 15, and drove throughout high school, was a 1969 Shelby GT350. I had purchased a 1969 Mach 1 with my own money when I was 14, and tore it completely down to restore it. I got through most of the body-work, and was beginning mechanicals, when my parents let me know that I needed something that actually RAN in time for my 16th b'day, as they were sick of carting my sorry butt around to football games and such. So I sold my project Mach 1, put the cash into my college till, and inherited the decent condition Shelby that my dad had unsuccessfully been trying to sell (so he figured, "if I can't sell the damn thing, let the kid drive it..)

He had $4500 in it, I had donated $2,000 of my own money to my college till...

But if I still had that car today.....

That's the premise, who here had something that at the time, was just another used car, but would be considered a gold-mine if you still had it today??

My first car was a 1980 Pontiac Firebird (I got it in 1985) (sans the big chicken decal on the hood). Valuable today? Probably not.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    bought a 928 S4 (my father bought me ) at 19
    993 turbo at 27
    996 GT3 at 29
    996 GT2 at 34
    997 turbo at 35

Actually, 1970-1981 Trans Ams are climbing QUICKLY in value right now. An ultra-low-mile well-preserved 1979 400 4-speed WS6 T/A is an easy $40-50K believe it or not. Of course, if it was not a Trans Am, it's still not worth much...

The only pics I have of my first Shelby are stashed somewhere at home. I'd have to find, and scan. If I think of it at home, I'll bring a few in to post... You'd like the one on the beach with my surf board on the roof...

Now look here kid, I'm 41 and I bet I can beat you in a game of racquetball with my left hand tied behind my back.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

Racquetball??? Oh yeah, that's what the pudgy guys trying to lose weight are playing in that glass room while I'm working out..

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    Yes, that's me.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    I am 37 now and I was 36 when I bought 997 C4S. I was 34 when I bought my firts Porsche a Boxter S and I will be 38 when I pick up my 997 Turbo

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

I was 52 when I recently bought my first Porsche. I wanted it before I just looked like an old fart driving a sports car. Often, it is in this phase of life before you can afford one. Congrats to you young guys who can afford the Porsche experience!

If you find the pictures please post them. I'd enjoy seeing that. As a side comment a good friend of mine, who is in his mid 60s, showed me a picture of him and his wife driving in their 60s era Corvette (back in the 1960s) with a Hobicat catamarran tied to the roof! Yes, the pontoons went out past the width of the car. Opening the doors was not possible they had to climb in through the windows. I believe they took their car/boat on 100+ mile trips. Those people are "drivers." To this day they get excited thinking about or planning (even for me) a cross country trek. They tell stories of pulling into "rest areas" and sleeping on the ground next to their car! Dedicated folks for sure!

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

I am 31. The car is on order and I should get it before my 32nd Birthday which is in March the 8th.

Now compared tomy first peugeot 205 954c.c and with 44hp( now thats an engine!!!!!) I think that the porsche will be a bit faster.

    I started as such peugeot 205 954c.c
    peugeot 206 1600c.c
    BMW 330 Ci Convertible
    and 997 S on order.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    33 when I bought the 997S black/black

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

My my... I feel always young when looking at my fellow-40-ers...
But now i feel old here. I'm reaching 46 in february.
    Driving my 4th p since i was 35.
Still feeling 20 ...driving my favourite car

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

    I was 37 last March when I got my first Porsche, a 997 C2. I'm 38 now..

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

I'm 32 and just picked up a 997TT last fall. This is my first Porsche and I admit that I was a bit intimidated by the whole "Porsche" allure initially but since then I've come to love the culture the comprises the Porschephile sickness. I definitely look forward to getting many more in the years yet to come.

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

I was 29 when I bought my first new Porsche, 1971 911T, before most of you were born. So now with my 06 997S, I feel reborn, So I beat you all!!!!!

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

That 911T must have been one hell of a car

    Re: Youngest 997 owner here?

'99 Boxster bought when I was 47, 997S bought this summer when I was 54. Before the Boxster I had real four seaters, like a 325 cab, to haul kids around.

And my first car is probably not worth squat - a 1963 Ford Galaxy 500 Dad bought me used for about $400. He only owned one new car in his life, a 1974ish Olds 88 - the last car he ever bought.

The first car I contributed significantly to (about half) was a 1970 Plymouth Duster bought new for about $1950. Definitely not worth squat. Here's the complete option list:

    3 speed syncro w/floor shifter
    bucket seats
    vinyl roof
    PS

    Here's what it didn't have:

    PB
    A/C
    Carpeted floor
    Radio (I supplied that after-market)

The ventilation system was a door in each foot well which openned directly to the outside air, probably through the wheel wells. It was nice and toasty on a warm summer's day. This (literal) rust bucket kept going for 10 years and 150,000 miles until my sister in law forgot to put oil in it and the engine siezed. Funny about that ...
