    Highly recommended "thicker" steering wheel

Definetely a grip improvement, I hated that thin standard steering wheel. Techart did a great job, I just wish I had ordered the slightly thinner version of this steering wheel because my wife started to complaint. But it is definetely worth it, a much better grip feel (and actually grip) compared to the standard steering wheel.

Oh, btw, a little hint for Techart: they should remove that silver Techart logo pin from the steering wheel, I had it painted black because it looked too bling bling.

    @RC
Nice to hear that you are quite happy with it!
For your next order: You can order it without TA logo.
We had same idea to paint it black.

Okay, I've held my tongue (keyboard?) as long as I can about all this customization. On the one hand, I tend to be "vehicle-conservative" and I don't understand the people who buy a Porsche just for its cache, much less those who put on all sorts of what I would consider garish accoutrements, just to make themselves stand out. I particularly don't understand those modifications that compromise some of the basic reasons that the vehicle exists, such as dropping the suspension or adding ground effects on a Cayenne. On the other hand, I am an even bigger proponent of "to each his own," and am clearly all for improvements in function, as RC's steering wheel must be for him. However, I have to comment on this dashboard. I'm sure it's clear from the above that it's not my taste, but that's perfectly okay. Still, unless these photos are highly misleading, these gauges surely have to be less readable, especially in the daytime, than stock. I'm sure Jan and Techart know their business better than I, and their customers obviously have deeper pockets than I, but this one eludes me completely.

That steering wheel does look good. I also like the perforated leather.

I agree, it is a matter of personal taste. No doubt about it. But regarding the thicker steering wheel, I had no choice. The Techart wheel seems of good quality, it is not very expensive and the Porsche thicker steering wheel isn't thick enough for my taste, not to speak about the fact that it would have been more expensive and it wasn't available when I ordered my Cayenne Turbo back in 2004.

Re: Highly recommended "thicker" steering wheel

I agree sigs, especially about the gauges! How anyone could see that as an improvement is baffling.

RC, make no mistake, I think that improving the functionality of a vehicle to suit ones preferences is a GREAT idea, and your steering wheel is a good example. Not only that, but IMHO, yours is quite tastefully done and very attractive, as well as functional (I would have blacked-out the silver logo, too ). My comments were, in general, about "enhancements" that diminish function in favor of "flash" and, in particular, about the white-on-orange-day-glo gauges in Jan's subsequent photo. Maybe if you need to look at the gauges, you shouldn't be driving a Porsche

    Otherwise, viva la difference

Re: Highly recommended "thicker" steering wheel

Like I said, I agree. Flashy stuff isn't for me, I love to keep my cars in an original state, I can't help it.
Maybe because in five years, you can't look at a modded car without shouting out loud "how could I?...".

Like I said, the steering wheel is a different story, I really needed a thicker one and the Techart steering wheel was the best alternative to the original Porsche thicker steering wheel option.

Re: Highly recommended "thicker" steering wheel

Looks nice RC! Does it come with heating?

Re: Highly recommended "thicker" steering wheel

    Hi,

sorry heating is not possible in TechArt steering wheels.

Yes, this is actually the only negative point, my wife loved the heated steering, especially now when we have freezing temperatures in Bavaria.

Re: Highly recommended "thicker" steering wheel

I like the Techart wheels better, but along the same subject here is the thicker Turbo S wheel. I also heard that they mounted the Steering columb higher or something along these lines on the Turbo S, is this true?
