    2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

Maybe you knew that allready but Ferrari Spa made 5399 cars in 2005.

That's a new record for the company.

It will be interesting to have the figures.

    I suppose at least 80 % of F430.

    Cheers,

    Gregory

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

Ferrari used to promise no more than 4,000 cars/yr. Nick, are you getting worried?

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

I can't wait till we see a Ferrari 4x4 for those moms taking the Versace-clad kids to school, a Ferrari minivan taking Armani-suited execs to an IT conference and a Ferrari hybrid hatchback for those shopping trips down Rodeo Drive...

We won't see a Ferrari SUV, that's for sure. But a small Ferrari like the Dino could be possible.

It will compliment the hundreds of Ferrari branded items that Target Stores and Wal Mart will soon carry, like dishes, garbage cans, toilet scrubbers.....
The branding overexposure is doing to the Ferrari name what Dior did to theirs in the early '80s when you suddenly saw Dior sweatshirts hawked at Fisherman's Wharf for $5. !

Ferrari management feels that Porsche management has their act together. I honestly feel that Ferrari couldn't be happier with Porsche becoming a mass producer of sport cars. It elevates the Ferrari brand even though Ferrari is marginally increasing production.

I very much doubt you will see Ferrari follow Porsches' footprints.

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

thats 4 times more than lambo...i just hope lambo will never do an suv....

Nick, I'd hardly call 35% increase "marginal". But, they do still sell few enough to have long waiting lines (at least in US)...

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

Grant only 1000 430's per year into the US. Production ends in 2008. The number you are using are world wide sales.

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

    1000 is too many Nick.

Already I have seen three F430's on the same street.
One parked, one trying to find a parking space and one going by. Two were Checquer cab Yellow, one was Silver.

It reminded me of the Harley cult.

Yes, I know the number is total production, but I think Ferrari is being tempted to sell more cars. They used to say that 4,000 cars was an absolute ceiling (just a few years ago)...

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

Grant, Ferrari has ambition to sell more cars than that. The new Dino will give them another several thousand cars per year in sales and they are developing other models as well.

Ferrari has laid waste to their promise of exclusivity. They are going mainstream. One glance at their ridiculous array of baubles including laptops, shoddy binoculars and cheap cameras is evidence enough that they covet Porsches sales strategy.

Only Lamborghini is a legitimate super car maker anymore.
Ferrari has chosen the trinkets for the new and many rich route.

So be it. Et tu brute.

I agree with you about all the crap Ferrari has marketed lately! Are you sure Lambo is still the real deal? I know they don't have a large volume, but somehow they don't seem the same since Audi bought them (for better or worse).

There are a few cool boutique products out these days like Koenigsegg, Noble, Saleen, and that wild British car that was built by ex- MacLaren folks (looks like an F1 car crossed with a catamaran), etc...

James what are you smoking? 1000 cars is not a lot of cars. The fact that there is a substantial premium for a 430 is testimony to its exclusivity and the brand marque. I agree with Grant that though the Lambo/Gallardo are terrific cars and in very limited production, nevertheless none to my knowledge sell over MSRP. The Gallardo if anything had disappointing sales.

The 997TT is a terrific car but within a year they will be discounted if not sooner. When dealers are offering to sell new CGT's for $75,000 off MSRP, Boxster $8-9000 off MSRP and 997C4 Cabs for $10,000 off MSRP you KNOW THAT THE BRAND HAS BEEN TARNISHED.

I saw this coming but people belittled me. Why should anyone buy Porsche at MSRP?

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

There is only a premium here in the US. And that is just a manipulation and not really from true market forces.

Ferrari is going for a fall, you heard it here first.

    All market bubbles burst!

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

So 06 will be closer to 6000 no? may be more.

They've been playing the same game for 50 years in the US successfully. And now all of a sudden they're going for a fall? You're basing this on?

The "problem" of all luxury sportscar manufacturers is the increasing demand for their products in countries like China or the former Soviet Union.

So a firm like Ferrari has two possibilities:
Stay with their low production numbers and let these sales go or increase their production by a still manageable number and participate in the new market.

Ferrari has obviously chosen the latter and IMO that was the right dicision.

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

Rossi you are accurate. And the best selling luxury brand
    in China is ........ Buick!

Not sure demand/sales for $150K+ cars is materially increasing in past 2-3 yrs; do you have data supporting that??....

Reason I have doubts is many $150K+ cars have OK, not great sales, in first yr produc when they're unusual/fashion statement....and then sales quickly decline in subsequent yrs (consider sales vols of 996TT, SL55 and Gallardo in their first 3 yrs of produc).

Despite enormous wealth creation, esp in US and London in past 7 yrs and fact car prices haven't really increased in 15+ yrs, seems as if guys have a psychologic barrier re: $150K+ cars, esp w/poor prospective resale value and/or >2nd yr produc cars.....look at feeble demand for GT2, 65, Gallardo....and fact EU couldn't even sop up its Enzo alloc (where are those London hedgies and MC mobsters when F needs 'em? ).

China and other emerging mkts are still an immaterial source of demand for $150K+ cars....guess one needs roads/fuel/dealer svc infrastruc, etc before they become material mkts...prob makes more sense for guys to buy wkend houses in more supercar-friendly locales like CA, MC, London, etc to house their more interesting cars

IMO, would prefer F increase produc to 10K/yr and/or incr US alloc to 60%+....more produc means greater ability to spread crash engineering R&D costs over more units....and will wash out mkt of cash-poor speculators/poseurs....image of car to unwashed masses/speculators doesn't mean much to me as I suspect <10% of wealthiest guys in SF/NYC/London choose to own/drive F anyway....

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

F's strategy is simple; always make sure demand far outweighs supply and at the same time keep a perception of low production numbers.

nick, gallardo is selling good, they sold all their production for the past 2 years. of course they never had the endless waiting lists of f cars, nor the 100k over msrp thingy , but they sold their production. now with the G spyder there is a waiting list of a year.

And the Ferrari fanboys, especially from the US, still believe their marque is exclusive. That's BS, throw enough money at the dealer and you can get one. That's not exclusive. That's vulgar.

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

5300 cars is not a lot if you consider the Chinese, Indian, Russian & Australian markets Ferrari is going into.

So is Porsche. And Ferrari is desperate to substantially increase production. They aren't limiting production on purpose, they just can't produce more. I wonder how the snobist crowd will view Ferrari once it can manufacture 20.000 cars annually.

Yes, that's what I meant. The true enthusiasts don't care, as they prefer to enjoy their cars and make 270 km/h videos ( ), instead of bragging about scarcity and resale.
The posers, on the other hand, better start saving up for the Veyron.
