    right mirror stays depressed after reverse

    I've tried to get the mirror to return to standard setting upon shifting to first gear by placing the mirror selector to the left, no return. I've also kept the mirror selector in the left mirror position to avoid having it lower upon reverse but no dice. No matter what I seem to do it gets stuck in the lowered position upon using reverse, and I have to select right mirror and adjust it up. Any clues on this one?

    Have you tried driving for a bit. I noticed that mine tilts down when I put my car in reverse but doesn't come back up right away. It stays down for a short bit then moves back into its normal position. Try leaving it alone to see if yours does that.

    Have the dealership look at it. That's definitely not normal then.

    Try placing the mirror selector switch in the middle position.

    Are your seats electric and do they have memory settings? If YES and YES, then just program one memory position for normal driving and another position for parking/reversing.

    Was this an option? I don't think my 2006 997S has this feature!

    Two different settings via "1" and "2". Memory allows for 3 different settings.

    Gotta be the memory settings, unless there's a mention about "relearning" for the mirrors like there is for windows and sunroof.


    If you really want to experiment, did you know, on most cars, you can push and shove mirrors by hand and it will __click__ and move to where you want it?

    Maybe somebody did this to your mirror ("crunched" in into the extreme position) and now it's at it's limit for the tilt or pan travel.

    Try to gently push mirror to "zero" position and start over; see if that works.

    Just a guess... .

    The mirror control selector should remain in the RIGHT mirror position. When you drive forward at 4 mph or higher it is supposed to return to the normal position. If not it is (1) not working right or (2) you didn't program it right to begin with.

    Yes, make sure both positions aren't set to the same 'down' angle. But to be honest, I think mine has occasionally stayed down too. I find that some of the electronics have random gremlins, so I wouldn't be suprised if it's behaving odd. Only resort to dealer fix in last resort. Chances are they'll screw something else up.

    My Range Rover does the exact same thing. Electric Gremlins are the problem for me anyways. RR fixes it by replacing the whole side mirror at $600 plus which is why after I'm done reversing I reach down and move the mirror up using the controls. Annoying yes. $600 annoying? No.

    Had a similar problem on my 987 s when I bought it. Turned out the mirror had been replaced with a standard unit that did not have the full compliment of wiring. The memory mirrors have 6 wires rather than 4.
