    997tt with RUF 600 package???

I've been having thoughts about upgrading my stage 1 Ruf car to there stage 2 with there modified vgts. have anyone tried this package?? i have found an article of the internet that tests a Ruf 600 997 turbo wth a LP560 but the performance figures for the Ruf 600 are identicle to RCs , Lukas , and my cars performance numbers with our 550 package from Ruf?? so there must be a typo and the car is more likly running with there 550 package instead of the stated 600 package.

Has anyone tried there stage 2 package? any thoughts??Smiley

i need your advice to pull the triger Smiley

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

Although I did not have the opportunity to compare these two kits I would argue that you need more than just these 50hp to feel a major difference. Maybe you should consider going for the larger 650+ kit?

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

MKSGR, i tottaly agree with you but the biggest drawback factor is the price........... and about there 550 package i tried with several US tuned 997 turbos with 600+ Hp ratings... and the outcome was for the Ruf all day long.................  so i just thought that uprading to Rufs vgts will make a a big diffrence in power?

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

I see your point. The "large" engine is quite expensive indeed Smiley

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

I would also argue that upgrading the vgts will yeaild a noticable gain across the powerband?????

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

There are very few Ruf 600s in comparison to 550s primarily because of price, but also because there is only a marginal performance difference between the two kits.  When asking about the 600 kit at RAC in Dallas, I was told that there was a pretty minimal difference, but a nearly $25K difference...I have seen two Ruf 550s trap 127, suggesting that 550 is the minimum being produced.

    def worth $ it

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

Guys, here is a little advice:

    1. go for the 550 HP kit if you still worry about your warranty and/or want to have a reliable car, especially if you love to drive it on the track and/or hard

    2. go for at least for a 650 HP kit if you want to have REAL power and a substantial performance increase, make sure that it is done properly (by any of the well known "quality" tuners)

RUF offers a very good quality and an excellent service. Their prices are usually a little bit higher but worth every cent, especially if you have problems with the tuning.

My rear tyres really struggle to put down 544PS/800Nm on dry tarmac in a straight line in 3rd gear!  I know Toby thinks I probably have about 765Nm (as I don't get clutch slippage) but even so, I seriously don't see the point of more than a Ruf 550 kit unless you track the car A LOT and need more 4th, 5th, 6th gear power.

Bear in mind though the recent threads about lower octane fuel.  These European tuner kits are designed to run on at least 98RON petrol.  Putting in less will decrease your horsepower and maybe damage your engine.

I agree entirely with you Alex, over 550hp/7XXNM is wasted anywhere else but Germany where you can use the higher gears - up to 200kph there is very little difference between a 550PS VTG car and a 630PS VTG car and despite counter claims I still reckon a 630PS car with the larger compressor wheel is not going to have the instant response of the smaller stock turbos (both for 997tt and GT2)
This is the main reason why I am staying with stock VTGs and limiting to 600PS/787NM and just enhancing it with advanced intercooling.....

I haven't driven the 550 but the 600 was sweet smooth and fast, could not keep up with the Rt12's though

As far as guarantee goes, you get Ruf guarantee and for my experience Rufs are much more reliable and use far less oil than unmodified turbos

My Ruf 550 R-Turbo is awesome, very easy to drive daily and a complete monster when the throttle is applied. I love it!

    Gasman,

Have you had the opportunity to run your Ruf on 60-130 or quarter mile?

I had a GIAC flash on the car for a few months,  I am so much happier with the Ruf. Just leave it at that. I have also driven a car with the PES flash, which produces tons of TQ  and makes for a very fast turbo. The Ruf has similar TQ characteristics and more, as it carries the power all the way to redline. The ruf feels faster than any of the other combos I have tried.

As to quality tuners : Ruf, Manthey, RS, 9FF in no particular order. All are expensive, I am partial to Ruf, but you get what you pay for IMO.

I threw that in because didn't the guy who started 9ff work for Ruf at some point? So +/- on 9ff, but Ruf, Manthey and RS are the stand outs.

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

I'm resurrecting this thread in light of the discussion about the MK2 997TT.  Has anyone noticed something out of place?  Take a look at the 80-120 km/h run in 5th gear.  Gear ratio for the previous review of the MK1 997TT is identical, clearly different for MK2.  We find the following:

    MK1 997TT 80-120 km/h 5th gear - 3.7 seconds

    MK2 997TT 80-120 km/h 5th gear - 3.8 seconds

    MK1 997TT Ruf 600 80-120 km/h 5th gear - 4.4 seconds

Testing conditions unclear...first two numbers from AMS, Ruf 600 from Auto Bild...can testing leave you with a huge 0.7 second difference?  Any thoughts?

Regarding the Ruf 600 figures: more turbo lag... 80 kph in 5th is sub-optimal for full acceleration, the Ruf 600 package takes more time to build up boost pressure, I would guess.

Re: 997tt with RUF 600 package???

Has to be the bigger VTGs on the Ruf 600 package spooling up slower, 80kph in 5th is about 2100rpm on the 997tt so a bigger compressor wheel probably takes fractionally longer to spool up...

I'd say that RUF has the best combo of quality, reliability and service.

Manthey is also very good, Techart also delivers a decent work and good service.

All the others play in a different league in my opinion.

Keep in mind that I'm talking about GERMAN tuners only.
