    New 7 series

Due for launch in November. The syling is subjective Smiley They are evidently chasing down sales in the Chinese market with this design.

    Re: New 7 series

I am Chinese, and I still can't love the exterior, especially the front.

Interior is gorgeous however, another notch up on the Mercedes S class, which seems like they got a great deal on chrome plastic from a bankruptcy sale.

At this rate, I am never getting back in a 7 again, and I have had 2 before.

    Smiley

It does have that vibe. Especially from passengers' point of view.

When I first saw the car unveiled, basically fall in love with that interior, especially from the driver seat's point of view. (I really don't care about the passenger point of view as I won't be a passenger in my own car).

There are sensible buttons placed in the centre console, and there isn't a sea of plastic chrome like in a S class (I know those are metal but the way Mercedes used them they seems like plastic). Material usage by BMW is topnotch, fitting for a flagship car. Even the double screen is nicely integrated with the dash, unlike the odd standalone design in the iX.

Also love it that BMW decided to make the normal and electric version basically the same car, (not that the exterior is great to look at), they don't feel a need to make an awkward version for electric. (talking about you Mercedes EQS)

    Re: New 7 series

the new trend with very small headlights and massive bumper gives an awkward look and is not reassuring for the future of cars...heart

Few brands from Asia are already following that trend...the rest will follow.

    Re: New 7 series

That is a horrible front. Why do car manufacturers continue to make attempts at this split headlight treatment? Did they not learn from past failures like the Pontiac Aztec or the Nissan Juke?

Not buying it. Even his analogy about having two kitchens, one for show and one for work, is bad. Not to mention they wanted design freedom, so they designed two square lamps? Where's the innovation that was being held back?

I know, he also failed to address the ugly as fuck grill. But that's the design direction he has chosen.

If they manage to find customers that will pay full price for this product then BMW stock is a strong buy.

Exactly. That analogy is hilarious and after all, having two kitchens at home is hugely popular...

My issue is not so much the concept itself but its execution. The DRL elements on the top are so extremely small and unobtrusive that the focus does not remain there. You will always continue to search for the remaining parts of the headlamp.

The Q8 also has the light functions on two levels but the main element, that is supposed to draw attention, is also the more prominent.

The worst thing on this front end though, and especially being a BMW, is the relation between front fascia and front wheel. The proportions are odd and far from the brand´s impressive proportions and short front overhang. If that would be a Hyundai, it would be less of an issue for me...

Crazy, isn't it? I bet hardly anybody in the last 20 years would've thought to give that statement... until the recent crop of cars from BMW.

    Re: New 7 series

Please no, no Bangle ever again….

    Re: New 7 series

Poor timing: Russian nouveau riche market is closed...

    Re: New 7 series

I've never been in the market for large saloon/sedan cars to be able to assess the buying criteria, but I am sure BMW, being a successful world brand know very well where in the world and in which segments the demand for the 7 series exists.

The basic design of this new model and its proportions are not extravagant, but it is the design details (bumpers, lights, grille, wheels etc.) that create its oddball style.

The bizarre style is not in accordance with the classic european aesthetic, but  Asians, Arabs and well-to-do ethnic minorities in the EU and the UK will love it. This is a large market already.

    Re: New 7 series

Can‘t see how it competes with the new S class, which while no Design  revolution, looks very good with the horizontal front and back lights…. Think MB wins this. But for non Chauffeur cars, still can’t understand why one doesn’t go for  a SUV over a limo. I see the S class and the 7 and just think my Cayenne TT is so much better….

    Re: New 7 series

A top SUV has a superior functionality to a large saloon car. However, there is a prestige factor associated with  large and luxurious limousines. CEOs and politicians like to be carried in those.

For me a Cayenne Coupe covers all the bases, for driving dynamics, go anywhere ability, presence, space and I like its looks.

    Re: New 7 series

Coming from an X5, I switched to a 745 because of the better driving dynamics. It’s a big difference. The new gen X5/7 are getting close though. I chose the 7 series mainly because if it’s rear seat is good enough for a dictator, it’s sure is good enough for my 6 year old son.

    Re: New 7 series

Generally speaking a sedan/saloon offers better consumption and it is faster than a SUV with equivalent power.

Some people also consider the styling of a saloon more attractive than that of  a SUV.

The Driving dynamics of the lower saloon cars used to be much superior compared to the taller SUVs  This doesn't apply as much nowadays. For example our Macan drives discernibly better than our RWD BMW 2, (in isolation a svelte car with good handling) in all conditions and roads. Driving pleasure with utility. I suppose a Cayenne Turbo GT will be a top drive.

    Re: New 7 series

I had the chance to see the new 7 series live on Saturday, not the interior, just the exterior. The car looks impressive and it looks like a 7 series, it is easily identifiable. I'm not saying it looks amazing or like some sorts of design milestone but it is not that bad to be honest. I'm not into sedans, more into SUVs but the new 7 series is probably exactly the product it is supposed to be...for people who owned a 7 series before and who are looking for a replacement.

Judging from the pictures shown so far,  the normal 7 series looks better than the M Paket version.

    Re: New 7 series

There’s a strong Rolls-Royce Ghost vibe with the new 7 series that was probably more than intentional since Rolls-Royce has the youngest average age of any BMW brand.

    Re: New 7 series

Too much metal above the front wheel: BMW's are supposed to have flat bonnets / low placed engines, etc. Also front overhang seems longer than space front wheel arch - front door line: traditionally that should be the other way around??

    Re: New 7 series

This is the key element of the new BMW design language with a strong emphasis on electrification of the marque.  No doubt it will sell in multiple global regions.
