    Roadtest 991S cab pdk limegreen

    Finally i could test a 991S cab for an afternoon.

    After 965, 993targa, 996 cab and 997S cab and for the moment the R8 i was thrilled to discover wether the p-virus would struck me immediately or wether the R8 has killed the p-virus in me....Smiley

    First some pictures.

    I'd never order a limegreen for myself but i must say it looks great in the flesh.

    First impression:

    When walking in the showroom of the belgian importer, it strucks me the 991 looks so 997-isch...

    It's only when observing it parked aside a 997 turbo, you see it's a whole different and more pure shape.

    Especially the cab-roof is an important improvement. The shape of the old one really looks dated, almost improvised compared to the clean roofline of the 991.

    The wings are also more accentuated, just as the overhang in the front is less prominent , and far better then the 997.

    Now get started:

    The noise with PSE on sounds fabulous, like all rennteamers already told before. Especially while the car was still inside the showroom...

    Comming outside the building we couldn't wait to get the roof opened! WAAUW is that a great improvement to see the windstop automatically unfold! this is one big improvement for cab-lovers...

    Then on the road...

    PDK: this was my first drive with this tranny... i must say it's comfortable, easy, fast and.... GREAT FUN when in sportsmode and using the paddles!

    When downshifting the engine makes avery pleasant "grumbling roffle" a bit like a subaru rallycar (and that's in the positive sense).

    CHassis feels great, not too soft but comfy. in Sportsmode it's to hard on belgian b-roads (no change here cfr 997), i thinck this is a tracksetting only.

    the interior looks a bit overloaded compared to my R8.

    We could give the car a good pace Smiley, and even then the cab is not too windy inside, this opposite to the boxster 981-drive i had accompagnying a friend two months ago.

    On twisted small countryroads the 991 doesn't feel too big at all, it's a joy too sprint from one turn to the next...Smiley.

    As i tested the R8 with it's sequential gearbox before i bought my manual one , i could only say: porsche well done!!! The Sequential R8 is crap, the PDK is top and again... great fun (never thaught i'd ever say thatSmiley.

    So conclusion, would i buy one?

    Yes, but not at the price porsche is asking, 150k for a wellequiped 991 is almost 40% more then my 997S in 2005.

    That difference does one not feel...

    So, we miss our cab (driving a R8 coupe), but prices must come down before i get one, especially concerning the big depreciation of the 997 before).

    Getting in our R8 made me realise this car is ever so fast, sounding even better, gives tons of driving fun too.

    The biggest difference has to be the consumption, imo the R8 uses 3 liter more /100km for the same acceleration and fun-figures...

    Thanks for the pictures and write-up.  I think  that in a couple years when the 991 takes the initial depreciation hit that the used car market for the 991 will be hot.  The minute you drive a new car out of the showroom, it will be worth a lot less than you paid for it:  all of the  $$$ you paid for the individual options will not then factor into the value of the car.  And in most cases that figure is close to $20-30 K.

    Thanks for the write up. The 991 is my favourite car after the 997.2. For the extra expenditure, it doesn't make much sense.

    Audi have recently replaced their below standard R tronic sequential with the S tronic (their version of PDK).

    I know, this was really necessary.

    it'll make the R8 with manual, like mine, look pale imo.
