RC, need your confirmation on this please

I just heard today that after '03 Turbo production, which will be the last year for 996TT, Porsche will offer a 3.8L engine, along the side with 3.6L engine, line for other 911s. Is this true at all or is there a rumor that you also heard in Germany about this?
Which would translate to something like the following:

C2 3.6
C2 3.8
C4S 3.6
C4S 3.8 and on....

Well, Ron ... you want confirmation for something even most people at Porsche don't know.

I don't think that Porsche will do a substantial facelift on the "new" 996. My personal guess would be that a completely new 911 shows up, same applies to the Turbo. Regarding a possible facelift (or "upgrade") on the Turbo: it is not excluded that Porsche offers a more powerful Turbo shortly before production ends, maybe some kind of Turbo "S" with same power as X50 or GT2.
Again, almost nobody knows yet what Porsche will do to it's model range in one or two years.
Be happy if people are able to tell what Porsche will do in 6 months.

Secrecy is part of the job.

If you remember the same thing happened for the 993 model, for the last year or so of production it could have been ordered with a 3.8 version of its engine called "plus".

Not quite right, Luigi. The X51 option on the 993 was actually the same thing as the powerkit on the 996/996 facelift. This option wasn't meant as a 993 "good-bye kisser". Exclusive offered also the option XE7, an additional oil cooler for the 993/993 Turbo. The only "special" car available for the end of the 993 model range was actually the 993 S, even if it wasn't intended to be. The 993 S was a 993 with the wide rear of the 993 C4 S but without the Turbo stuff (brakes, suspension, etc.). I actually liked the 993 S looks much better than the ones of the C4 S. The 993 S had the same power as the 993 but it was possible to order X51 on it.
The "plus" powerkit you might be talking about was the powerkit to upgrade the 993 Turbo's 430 HP factory powerkit to the 450 HP power of the Turbo S. It was called "Powerkit Plus".

This stuff is pretty complicated, ehh ?

Maybe it was just a Swiss thing, because I really test drove a 993 4S called 993 Carrera 4S Plus which had a 3.8 liter version with 300 hp.I was offered to retrofit this engine enhancement on my C4S for 13000 Swiss francs (about 8800 Euros) but chose not to.Pretty complicated indeed!
