    E90_M3

it would be nice to look like that

    Re: E90_M3

Well, gone for good are the "stealth factor" looks of the M3 many of us valued

    Re: E90_M3

Although in US it seems that M3 is a favorite of the rice set, so stealth prob doesn't work well for M3 in US mkt...

    Re: E90_M3

well now they have half the job done by Bangle already

i wouldn't consider the M3 as a rice car in itself, but after owning one for a month now, i can see that it attracts many more looks from that age/financial demographic than my boxster S.

can't wait to see what kind of reactions the turbo S brings, and from who.

    Re: E90_M3

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the next M3 going to be a four door and the 2 door will be the M4?

As much as I mock BMW for its seeming inability to build engines that don't blow up (can't wait to see M5's travails), I tend to rec the M3 to those who can't afford a new 911. Part of the strong resale value of M3 is derived from its relative affordability and appeal to the rice set (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Part of why I'm fan of 996TTS is that 996TT is a very common high-end taxicab (like the SL55) in major mkts like Greenwich/LA/SF....arguably some of world's best engineering in a low-profile package is very appealing to some....and even w/weak resale values, some $100K used cars tend to be out of financial reach of much, though not all, of rice set

    Re: E90_M3

The 3-series, especially the M3, doesn't have such a good resale value here in Germany - at least compared to the likes of a Carrera!

Porsches had always a rather elegant, unpretentious look - much unlike a Ferrari or Lamborghini and also much unlike the BMW M-models. I'd say this is one of the reason they became that popular as your so-called "high-end taxicab".

Oh, anybody interested in a look on the real deal E90:

    Re: E90_M3

i hear the M3 is selling for a 5k markup in california... thats insane.

i got 4k off mine in new jersey, new 04 2 months ago...

anyways, i bought the m3 because i think that at 50-60k, this is the best coupe on the market.

to get a 911 with similar creature comforts, even the base C2 would be optioned to about 75-80k.

and i hate the anniversary edition, even though that can be discounted to about 65-70k, i still think it is a sinking rock.

    Re: E90_M3

I would be careful describing the M3 as a rice car.
Be careful too in distinguishing the US mentality with the European mentality on cars.
What I agree however is that the 3 series as it gets old , a lot of jacky's start tuning it and you see really ridiculously horrible cars, included old M3's.

However I think that the M3 is the best sportcar which gives you a 360 degree utilisation at a price of 60000 euro. I can't see any good alternative as the M3.

    Re: E90_M3

i will admit the m3 is a bit 'hooliganish' compared to a p-car. but on the outside only and only from a couple angles

    Re: E90_M3

    I don't even compare the M3 with a P-Car.
Simply because the first is a normal 3 series with the right adjustments and the second is a real sportscar.

Maybe LA is different (though doubt it), but in SF M3 is selling at MSRP at best, w/a discount fairly typical. I've often observed hot cars like 360/SL55, etc selling at roughly 10% premium in LA/SF over NYC....car cos. don't seem to allocate enough cars to LA/SF mkts but capitalistic brokers do their best to source the relevant cars to feed unmet demand in major mkts

All good points. I would also suspect it's hard to even describe US and Europe as monolithic entities in terms of views on cars....I would argue major mkts in US can have a fairly casual, jaded view of many high-end cars, which are rather uncommon in most US cities....I wonder if London and Monte Carlo are the major outliers in Europe w/similarly jaded views of many high-end cars....perspectives possibly not shared by most other major European cities....
