    997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funny!

My car says "29 days to service" something like that. Just popped up on the tach!!! REALLY made me laugh! I Never expected Porsche would put such pressure on me!

I have about two dozen smoke alarm batteries to change, ten phone batteries to keep replacing, fifteen clocks to adjust every DS time, house alarms to set, remote controls to set and change batteries, oil changes to keep track of, computers to back up, copier toners to replace, printer ink to replace..., wheeeeew..., Geez..., I gotta stop here!!!!!!

So now the car starts telling me what it needs!!!

    FUNNY!!!

Any other messages in our car's computers telling us what we have to do?

Oh! To add insult to injury: I Looooove the part where Bic Pens now dry out after a few months! I used to have Bic pens from highschool which still worked! Can you believe you have to replace your bic pens every few months too?!

I think I'm ready to go bonkers!

(just kidding, trying to have some fun here...)

Yeah, life is tough. The other 99.99% of the world with less (or no) consumer goods have an easier life, or do they?

But doest it warn you a month in advance that it'll go dry????

I cann`t belive it this is possible by porsche. How long did you own the car and how much km did you drive ?

If possible please make a pic of this screen advice

The car is also telling you what day it came to life. Just go back two years and you have the actual birthdate of your car.

Re: 997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funny!

Don't all cars do that these days? Certainly all my previous BMW's and Mercedes and a Mini (6 cars in total) have all had this feature since at least 1997 i.e. 10 years ago.

Maybe this is MMD's first new car in ten years? All my cars tell me it's time for service, some let you know ahead of time to be ready.

Re: 997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funny!

Car also nags you to re-fill the screenwash and fuel. It'll probably nag you when one of the light bulbs has died too.
With seat sensors, It's only a matter of time before it'll be telling you to go on a diet!

I have to say though, that the 'range to empty' is stunningly accurate!

Does it say "you've just run out gas " (with smiley face) ?

I could be crazy but all my other cars will say "X miles til service" or "service required," something like that; I never had one that gives an exact number of days!

I wonder if the warnings get more intense and possibly threatening as the days count down!

Sheesch..., I wonder if my warrenty will expire if I don't get serviced in 29 days (28 days now! maybe 27? maybe 26?! Holy cow what if it's down to 25??!!).

This one's going down in my "Porsche Comedy File" along with "manuell" on the AC for the 996/986 era (good clean comedy, not the sarcastic stuff).

Sorry, you're right. But I wasn't surpised because I don't put that many miles on it, so I hit the 2 year mark for service before I could hit the 20,000 miles. Maybe it's the same with my other cars if I didn't put that many miles on them. The Acura will tell you to go to service based on oil life (which is still probably based on miles or time, whichever comes first).

The nav system said "Take the first exit (from the car). The petrol station you were attempting to reach is 100m, on the left." then blew a raspberry at me.

Re: 997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funny!

SO funny, this happend to me yeasterday as well! I took it in and they told me that the service required also included flushing the brake lines... is this the same for everyone (i have 15k miles, delivered aug, 2005 as a 2006 C2S). Also, they told me the cost is $865...

Re: 997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funny!

Yup. Brake fluid change at 2 yrs. Can contain quite a suprising % of water over that time.

Yeh, and if you scroll down a line it says: "Especially that damned brake light that's always lit up".

Re: 997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funn

I luv you guys that Photoshop....

My Audi gives miles as well as days remaining to / for service. Activated automatically or via switch on dash.

Re: 997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funny!

My "service" message came on recently, just one day after I picked up the car from my 2-year service. And the countdown continues. You'd think they'd be able to reset this after a service.

Re: 997: "29 Days to Service. " I laughed!! Funn

All the Merc's, BMW's that I have owned have stated the next mileage in either miles or days until due - however this varies with driving style. If you are a low mileage driver then it tends to be time that kicks in first and thus your reminder will be "due in X days".

I think this will be the same with the Porsche, although I havnt checked the manual.
