Look at what they have to work with. Commercials are about the senses and Porsche styling year to year is as about as boring as you will find any car.As I wrote in another post; it is like Groundhog day.
They can't try to sell speed and performance because of liability issues so they do the best they can with a non sensory product; you exploit the heritage and marque. Thus you end up with boring commercials.

Nick, I don't think liability comes into play for car company advertising. Just look at all the tv car ads out there, nothing but performance and top speed ads. Hell the new pontiac gto ad shows a guy waiting at a red light letting it go green and back to red just waiting for another car to show up to drag it. I could name one after another ad touting speed.
How about this for a new 997 commercial;
From the perspective of a person sitting alongside a country road, 997 flashes by and beeps, camera perspective changes to view out the back of the 997 and you see a 360 overheating and the owner with gold chains dangling from his neck sitting beside the car, then the view looks into the cabin of the 997 with a smiling couple driving fast with a nice song on the radio.

All I know is I have a blast absolutely going nuts in my CS around the mountains (ie: go thru a 26 gal tank of gas in about 100 miles) and so far it's been rock solid. If I ever get tired of the glorious sound of the motor there is always the crap ass $2k factory stereo. Then again, my 4 year old (today) 996 has been rock solid reliable since new. Sure wish I could say that about our 6k mile, 5 month old Cayenne Turbo (POS).
BTW, the only jewelry I wear is a plain old silver wedding band.
PS. Oh how nice it would be if Porsche would spend some of that $45 mil racing instead of advertising SUVs during F1 races. I wonder if this focus on advertising instead of racing is why Fcars are becomming drastically more reliable while Pcars are becomming drastically less so?

Hey Ben you sure did change your stripes in a hurry. The fact is that the 360 along with the vanquish and my 928 are my favorite modern cars. But as you know advertising plays on stereotypes and that is the steretype of the ferrari owner. Stereotype does not mean it applies any particular percent of the time. I hang with some f people and they are ok.
A lot of my posts are lighthearted and meant to give all who read them a laugh. But just for the record you do remember your posts regarding playing the f game and wearing your car? Next you will be telling us your moving to tuscany and going by the moniker "the maestro".

Hi Tom.
Yes, I have to admit I used to be ignorant as regards 360s until I did a little research and actually got one. The stereotypes re: buyers are still somewhat accurate though there are most def exceptions to the rule. Truth is, outside of the enthusiast (a minority of Pcar buyers these days), the modern day Pcar poseur shares a lot in terms of small [censored] syndrome with the stereotypical Fcar buyer. The enthusiasts for both brands are probably more the exception than the rule.
