It all depends on what criteria a buyer wants to use to decide what sports car to buy.

Since the Corvette development team has said in print that they bought and benchmarked the regular Turbo during development of the Z06( and not the GT2 ) , it seems fairer to comp the GT2 to the the upcoming ZR1.

As I said, it depends on what criteria a buyer wants to use to decide what sports car to buy....if someone is not buying a sports car based solely on performance numbers/lap times, then the comparison can be between anything they feel is relevant. (And in this case it makes no difference at all what GM used for benchmarking).

Let's stay on topic, here . Otherwise we'll degenerate into the tired " bang for the buck " argument which will have Miatas going against Enzos too. Or when test numbers don't go the way an enthusiast wants , the raising of the " feels better / sounds better " factor .

The thread started with comparos of track/test numbers only and we who are long time Porsche enthusiasts here would agree that it is fairer to compare the reg Turbo with the Z06 and the coming ZR1 with the GT2, leaving price out .

Following that logic, would you say that if the GT2 development team were to say that they did not buy any competitors' cars for benchmarking purposes then it would not be fair to do a comparison test of the GT2 against any other car?

    I don't think so.

    Oh, OK.

If that's all you want, where's the ZR1?

GT2s have already been tested against other competitors cars so there's no reason why a GT2 shouldn't go up against ZR1.

Production spec ZR1 to be unveiled in 6 weeks in Detroit. Production starts May 2008 for late August deliveries .

Most on the Corvette Z06 boards cross shop the Viper , rarely the 911. I doubt many Turbo or GT2 buyers cross shop the Viper .

BTW, here is a link to the sound of the ZR1's supercharger whine as it accelerates last month at Laguna Seca , with a 997 GT3 and Aston V8 following behind!

I am on topic. You opined about comparisons and I replied about it.

My point is that sports cars are about a lot more than just "performance numbers". If they WERE just about performance numbers, then every owner out there would be trading cars every time some car exceeded the performance numbers of another car. We all know this doesn't happen.

If you or others want to use solely performance numbers to decide what sports car to buy, so be it. But don't think everybody else thinks the same way, and don't be offended or set back in your personal opinions if others find values in sports cars that are not totally performance related.

    Re: Z06 vs GT2

The GT2 Destroys the Z on a road course. The Z looks like the rest of the C6's and I speak from experience as I just sold my 07Z. The GT2 is a Exotic.
