    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

One of the "retarded 996C4S" owners chiming in here....

Love the car with X73, R compounds, GT3 seat and PSE. As do a few others I see at each TWS DE. Not to mention Walter Rorhl cites it as his favourite (you can check the citation in Car(UK) magazine).

Was seriously tempted by a 996Turbo....until I drove one, disliked the lag and the added weight. Can't say the 997C4S appeals...however, am already on the waiting list for hte 997GT3 :-D

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

    nice

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

How much more money was the 996 C4 compared to the 996 C2?

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

I am happy with the new 997 C4S....maybe a new front bumper could of been nice, but overall I like it.
I did not want a turbo look a like.... without the turbo!
I am not sure about the extra 44 mm... as proportions are perfect now, but I will have to see.
Called my dealer this morning, he didn' t know anything about it !!!! Hope he does now . He has comfermed that I will be top of the list and get the first C4S he gets( or one of the first , as I do not fully trust what dealers tell me) .
Would of liked some ' special' features ( rims, or extra power, or front bumper...but I now I will like my car!)
Let's see about the AWD system.... there might be something new in it.... acceleration times are better than before.

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

68k base vs 82k base, USD 996c2 vs 996c4s. I think the c4 was 74k base, not sure.

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

you confused us with all that base....

I also called my dealer, while I reading these thread and they also didn't know anything. I gave them the link to these forum and to these thread, so they can have a look by themselves.

Guys made a bit publicity work up here!

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

On the UK Porsche Site there is now a web special on the new 997 C4 & C4S

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

In the UK it is a Pounds4000 premium over 2wd carreras. Can get one for October 2005. It is 44mm wider. Hatfield porsche confirmed.

    Indeed, with a new picture.
Man, the wheels are gettin' wide!:

A striking feature of these new 911 models: they are 44 millimeters wider over the rear fenders. The rear wheels of the Carrera 4 can therefore be fitted with 295/35 ZR 18 tires, and its "bigger brother" with 305/30 ZR 19 tires.

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

I know they want so badly to keep " retro-izing " the 997 , but radiusing the rear fender hump just looks a bit too" VW Beetle-esqe " to me instead of 993 .

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

Nobody is playing with your emotions, this is the REAL deal.

Here's a picture of the C4S, more (incl. official infos) to come later this evening.

RC, since the 997 Turbo is also supposedly +44 mm and calculations show the C4S's wider 305/30-19 rear tire to be what the Turbo needs to keep at same 26.2" tire diameter, then are we basically seeing the 997 Turbo here, with the addition of the wing, intercooler's intake scoops/ exit slats , higher exhaust pipe exit point and more aggressive front fascia ?
I guess since the base 997 C2 is much wider than the base 996 C2 that this 997 wide-body is very subtle to me in pictures , when compared to the 996 difference.

I love Porsche cars, I really do, this is no secret.
I love the new 997, I think it is a beautiful car and a very nice evolution of the 911 tradition.

However: I don't understand the strategy behind the C4 and C4S, it doesn't make ANY sense to me. ANY.
First, we got the unofficial information that the C4S comes first with the 381 HP powerkit engine and a slightly wider body. This would have made sense, somehow.
Now this...a 997 C2/S with wider body (which needs an EXPERT with a measuring device to tell the difference) and same power. Where is the logic in that? Even from a marketing point of view, this combo doesn't make ANY sense.

The "old" 996 C4S sold well because it looked slightly different and MUCH more wide from the rear, it sold well because it looked a bit like the Turbo and had the Turbo brakes. But the new C4S looks like...a Carrera S. I mean this is ridiculous, honestly. And the C4S is 5 kph slowlier than the Carrera S which doesn't make sense to me either.
Changed gear ratio to keep up with the Carrera S on the straight line?

I'm disappointed, honestly. But not necessarily because of the C4 and C4S (I'm sure they are excellent products) but because of what this decision tells about Porsche's future models: no superduper power 997 Turbo and no extra power 997 GT3. I'm afraid the upcoming power figures look like the worst rumours we got and we never believed them:
    1. 390-395 HP for the 997 GT3
    2. 430-440 HP for the 997 Turbo

I know, I know, this isn't only about power. But if I pay premium for a car, I want that extra power too for those Autobahn days when those M5 and F430 hunt me down.

My next Porsche a 997 Turbo? With less than 450 HP? I doubt it. I'm afraid my next Porsche will be a Lamborghini.

I think Porsche has too many 996 C4S factory cars for sale and they just wanted to raise their resale value.

I respectively disagree with those power estimates. That would be lower than what you can get for today's 996 turbo. That's a step backward.

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

Even though I'm somewhat disappointed by those news, their current line-up makes perfect sense to me.

I think it's a fallacious premise to compare the new C4S to the 996C4S. Porsche has changed the meaning of the S designation some time ago. S simply means more power nowadays. Therefore the 997C4S is comparable to the 996C4 with a tad more power.
Furthermore, even though the notion of a C4S with 381hp is really enticing, what do you think how much such a car should cost?? If the powerkit alone is worth roughly 10k and the 4x4 system about 7k , the C4S decently equipped would cost around 120-130k.
That's the region of a Turbo.

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

What I dont' get is the mere 44mm width addition. Its so subtle that you have to ask was it worth it to do all the tooling and testing for it?

    Hi Dilinger,

if we buy a new Porsche here in Germany, we get the magazine 12 month for free. After that we also have to pay.

I get my Christopherus also after 12 month.

Agree. That's only 3/4 " wider per side . And w/o the reflector strip of the 996 C4S that added extra perception of width, most won't be able to tell ,if the 997 C4S were debadged. Remember the thread from those Seattle pics a few months ago where it's obvious now that it WAS a 997 C4S. People argued for days and superimposed measurements to prove/disprove it's supposed wider body. NEVER had to do that with any prev generation wide bodies. Be honest - you can't tell " at first glance " from any of these official pics either !

Why are we all confusing the Carrera 4 (and 4S) with the potentially coming Carrera 4 with turbolook!?!?!?

    RC,
Didn't the 996 Carrera 4 do well before the arrival of the 996 C4S
Porsche is conservative, we all know that, history repeats itself, that's the way I look at it.
Powerkit will be available for both 2WD and 2WD models (standard and S).
It was the same for the 964, 993, and 996, so why is everybody so upset?

May I remind that the 997 range is only 1 year old!!!

Patience gents, we still have about 5 to 6 years of 997 to come (incl. Turbo AND N/A turbolooks, usually one year after the Turbo).

As for the Turbo power, you know more than me I do not doubt that RC, but for people like you and me, there will be the powerkit!

    Re: C4 & C4S Brochure Scans

    Actually the difference is Pounds5k.

    Pounds64932 for the 2S - Pounds69900 for the 4S.

Also found it funny that the highlight of the letter said the fuel tank is 3ltr bigger than the 2S - big deal!

    You are absolutely right Tim,
My upcoming 997S costs about 125,000 Euros, with the equivalent options, considering some of them will be cheaper, maybe even standard on the Turbo, I am pretty sure the latter will still be 50k more expensive.
Just for comparo, with approx. the same option, a 996 Turbo was about 50k more than me similarly equipped 997S, so price balance is respected.
