    C-GT comment

While the new C-GT is stunning, am I the only one that was surprised by the "parts bin" steering wheel?? The new rusty brown leather is gorgeous, but that wheel is going on 6 years old and I for one would expect that spending upwards $300-$400K on a supercar would at the very least include a unique and suitably "supercaresque a-la Enzo" steering/racecar wheel????

Maybe it's me, but I have the same standard silver logo wheel on my 01 C2 and I hope that PAG does not retain that thin rimmed large diameter design for the 997. The fact that the yet to be released C-GT is sporting it....that could very well happen.

    Re: C-GT comment

Remember one thing - you are seeing 'pre production' models. Some things will change, others won't.

    Re: C-GT comment

yes.......but at PAG site the "official" photos show that wheel?

    Re: C-GT comment

Totally agree! For that price, the customers should be in a position to order another wheel if desired. I'd definitely see a smaller and thicker one.

    Re: C-GT comment

I feel the exact same way !! Why wouldn't they at least flatten the bottom of the wheel out; to make it look like a CART, or F1 car. It would also give the driver more leg room.
That wouldn't cost so much; for sure. I'll be in a GT on Monday, at the ride and drive; and I'm sure I won't be thinking about the steering wheel ! Revvv

The thing is: Porsche did some poll with potential buyers and it seems that people who want to buy this car, like it.
A little advise for CGT buyers (people who ordered one or are willing to order one): it is always possible to spec a few things differently, depending on the country you're living at.
Porsche tries VERY hard to satisfy all future CGT owners.

    Re: C-GT comment

    Hi RC,

Perhaps the factory likes to be solicitous of customers, but with PCNA running interference for them, I don't see it over here in the USA.

I considered going to the Leipzig ride-and-drive, but chose not to when they couldn't confirm that I could see Fayence yellow in person, nor try out my body in a wide-option seat (I'm 1,93m and 95kg).

I went to the Geneva introduction, and was quite impressed that Roland Kussmaul cheerfully took a great deal of his time to answer many of my personal (ranging from dumb to technically sophisticated) questions. The main reason I went to the Geneva event was to confirm that I would be able to drive the car comfortably, considering my size, with the top attached. I was able to sit in the car and check clearances to the top of my head satisfactorily. I may yet specify the 10mm thinner seat padding.

The dealer just recently received a large color swatch of Fayence yellow, so that part is now solved (I don't like it, though the quite different, small brochure sample was nice).

However, PCNA has no information, nor suggestions, about how I might be able to test fit the wide seat (option 386, 387) before it's too late for the build date. This situation creates much anxiety. One would think that customer satisfaction with the ordering process of a $440.000 transaction would occupy the minds of someone at PCNA, but I digress. Futher, why must a customer guess at what the effect of options will be?

I'm quite willing to travel to Zuffenhausen or Leipzig to sample the options in place, but there is no suggestion of how it might work out.

I don't think they try hard enough at all.

    Re: C-GT comment

Wow Mike, what an honor to have you onboard.

Would you please send me a private email ( rc@rennteam.com ) and I might be able to give you a contact at Porsche in Germany.
It would be ridiculous if this "problem" can't be solved in a way or another.

    Re: C-GT comment

Indeed, and thanks for your wonderful product!

    Re: C-GT comment

Thanks so much for the kind words.

It's encouraging to here that the Porsche buying experience is no different whether your spending 400k or just 40k.

There is absolutely no reason why Porsche cannot at the very least have an options computer similar to the one used for potential Maybach owners. If someone were to create a detailed functioning proposal for such a thing who at Porsche should I contact?

"It's encouraging to here that the Porsche buying experience is no different whether your spending 400k or just 40k."

FWIW, the service experience is supposed to be considerably better according to the Product Info book. Apparently they are shooting for a more upscale service experience for owners of the CGT - at least PAG is and I would expect PCNA to follow.

PS. Mike, no thank you. Your product has saved my butt on numerous occassions. I was an Escort loyalist back in the good ole days before they let the best thing they had going for them go out and start up a competiting business. It's no coincidence that you guys are going strong and winning all product comparisons while Escort has been mired in BK court. Enjoy your CGT, you've sure earned it!

Where do you find out about something like this for the CGT? I wasn't aware they were in the country yet!

    Re: C-GT comment

Love your product Mike. I recommend it to all my friends. Post pictures after delivery, won't you?

brh986: There are some test mules that have been seen running around the US but there aren't any customer C-GTs in country yet. The "ride and drive" referred to is an event in Leipzig for people that have plunked down a $50K deposit on the car (keeps out the riff raff ). And "ride and drive" is a misnomer as you don't actually get to drive one. The "drive" portion is in a GT2 or a GT3. Or so I understand from posts made by people that are attending the event as the C-GT is way beyond my ability to rationalize.

    Re: C-GT comment

    mike,
a warm welcome from me as well! very cool to have you aboard... i'm a satisfied user of the v-1 for over a year now -- it's quite a challenge to hide it from the police (in germany)
