    CL 63 AMG:

    Re: cl 63 amg

I didn't like the new CL when it first came out but this looks amazing!

    Re: cl 63 amg

    that thing is sweet!!!

    Re: cl 63 amg

Any more pics of this brute?

    Re: cl 63 amg

Ah c'mon. Look at all these spoilers and side skirts. Much too overdone. Seems as if AMG is heading right back into the eighties...

    Re: cl 63 amg

Don't like it. Yes, AMG does great things with Mercs... but I just don't like the design of the headlights or the grill of the car. The headlights are not mercedes-ish... they are audi and bmw ish ... the grill looks very sorta like the old SL grill. (even though the older SL looks good, it still is a bit depressed looking).

    Re: cl 63 amg

IMO, exterior styling of any car is less relevant than driving feel/performance/tech innovation/safety/interior ergonomics and materials/daily utility value.....besides, any car in blk/blk w/raciest factory-spec wheels and imposing ceramic/cpd brake calipers will look fine anyway....

What will be interesting to see in coming mths is whether 599 makes CL63/65 fairly irrelevant as commuter car of choice for jaded car guys in major mkts like Greenwich/Woodside/London.....

Keep hearing great things re: 599 from my Lond pals....isn't competition great for the humble, frugal consumer?

    Re: cl 63 amg

Hey 330 good to see you back , thnks for the pix.

Rossi, you are being too nice.

The car looks like a fat woman in a bikini.

    Re: cl 63 amg

wow... I'm not really A merc fan at ALL but this thing has some presence

AMG probably got hold of old KOENIG SPECIALS design blueprints

    Re: cl 63 amg

I think the new CL looks great. Though its design reminds me of SEC MB cars of the 80s.

    Re: cl 63 amg

i love mercedes, especially AMG's. MB is mad about power now and i absolutely love it

    Re: cl 63 amg

    Just some testing pics.

    Re: cl 63 amg

I just ordered a cl500 with amg packet and 19inch amg rims. Does the amg packet look like the one pictured above on the cl63 version?

Also have on-order CL550 w/AMG body kit for ?Oct deliv and will trade-in for CL63 when it launches in ?early '07...

Based on the ?official pic of CL63 taken from one of the euro MB corporate sites and the official pics of CL550 w/AMG body kit on ?germancarfans.com, I vaguely recall front air dam of 63 as having the more aggressive AMG Perf Package-look...and CL550 AMG body kit having a slightly meeker look (sort of like the AMG body-kitted S550).

Also, would guess CL63 will have 20" wheels (ala S65)...and a consideration will be how small the CL550 brake calipers will appear vs 19" "open" design AMG sport wheels....

    Re: cl 63 amg

The AMG kit for the new CL looks like this:

    Re: cl 63 amg

    It looks amazing.

    Re: cl 63 amg

I love it! Beautiful big coupe!
I'd take that anytime over a Bentley GT.

The car to have will probably be the CL63 Turbo, when that engine comes out. I just wish AMG would start making these cars with AWD.

    Re: cl 63 amg

i am not a merc. fan , but i have to admit ,in the HP war they are well positioned..

Well and truly. However, I think the Audi RS6 will be the car to have, as AWD is a must on such a vehicle.

If only they would offer AWD for their high-performance cars

Doesn't sound like 63TT is in plans (would be too close to 65 capabilities)....am choosing 63 over 65 as I'm favoring 63NA's ?250lb lighter wt, NA throttle response, 7-speed tranny and lack of need to periodically refill oil (as in 65)....though I'll give up 65's higher-grade leather finishes and legendary tq for 60-120MPH accel...

Actually, having flung '07 SL55/65 around twisties, to my amateur skills, prefer lack of AWD.....new-gen ABC, steering ratio, ESP and LSD seem to work very well (vs SL55 v1.0's I've owned in past)....and the published track times of SL55 v2.0 seem respectable vs much lighter, more-focused competitors

Oddly enough, have found SL55/S550 to have greater cross-wind stability @100MPH and wet-weather braking (in hilly urban settings and during cruise on rainy fwys) than 996TTS (?MB's auto brake-drying feature's effect) I plan to closely compare 997TT vs CL63 in rainy winter driving....let's see if 997TT's new eAWD, PCCB 3.0 and aerodyns are notably improved over 996TTS for inclement weather/cross-winds....

Another major comp is 612....consider that 612 actually weighs 4300+lb and is RWD; many who've driven 612 on track/twisties are astounded by how light/nimble is car's driving feel...obviously, any heavy car requires an adjustment in driving style....

CL63 will prob weigh 4700lb but has benefit of 2yr newer (than 612) processor/software tech for its ABC, steering, brakes, stab ctrls, etc....given the advances seen in even the SL55/65 v2, I look forward to seeing what the AMG guys accomplish w/CL63, as they seem more focused on steering precision/handling/higher-tech, more linear engines (4v/cyl, etc) than ever before....

From what I've heard, the 63TT would probably replace the 65.

    That is partly correct.
One model will not have the AMG63 and AMG65, doesn't make sense.
One is the na V8 with more than 500 hp, the other is the V12 Twin Turbo with 612 hp.

What I don't understand is how they decide which model get what. But you're right Crash, it would seem that less get the V12TT.

    S65
    but
    M63, CL63 (new), CL65 (current), CLS63, CLK63, etc.

To my knowledger, they only models with the 65 are the current S and the soon to be replaced current CL.
