Factory Collection contact details & Protection Film Fitting.

    Folks,

Does anyone have an email address for the factory collection centre in Stuttgart ?

I want to try to see if i can get them to fit protection film to my car. I have talked to the Stuttgart Centrum and they can fit it at a cost of 950 Euro to the front. It will take them a day to fit.

Has anyone had protection film fitted by a Porsche dealer in Germany ? What type of film do they use and do they cut it on the car ?

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Chris,

Might be worth giving Tom Wakeford at Paintshield a call. I believe he supplies film and pre cut kits to installers across Europe so may be able to help you out. I use Paintshield for all my cars and have been very impressed with them.

Thats a good idea i think i will do that.

I want paintshield to do my car, however i fancy doing a factory collection this time around :)

Re: Factory Collection contact details & Protection Film Fitting.

     Chris,

I had mine done at the Porsche Zentrum in Stuttgart.  Things to consider that you may/may not have already guessed:

    1) If you really want a factory collection, specify that you want the foil applied after you collect the vehicle and add the extra trip time into your pickup plans.  Else, you'll pick up the car from the PZ across the street from the factory, which while still nice isn't nearly as cool as taking it from the factory.

    2) I had VentureShield done on my T4S (entire vehicle minus glass).  It was a custom cut but I didn't see the guy do it or know enough to ask as the time.   BTW, it's not actually done by PZ--they subcontract to a guy their that leases their workshop and works under their name.  Either way the installer at PZ was (IMHO) NOT proficient.  There were stretchmarks, bubbles, and indenture lines.  He took shortcuts  and covered the edges to the min extent possible and cut lines were sloppy.  While you can't tell from more than about 6' away, once you get up close you can see the blemishes.  He blamed all of the above on the product.  Having seen what it should look like on some of the guys' cars on this forum I argued with them for 2 DAYS, had them replace sections 2x, and at the end told him to take it all off and I wanted my money back.  We settled for keeping the work but paying 40% what I was originally charged to cover materials.  All in all it was a nightmare, AND I missed my factory tour.

I couldn't find much info or people who had used PZ but I would NOT recommend you using them.  I told them they needed to ditch the guy...who knows if they did or not.  I know nothing about "paintshield".

PS>  PZ themselves were very helpful in trying to sort out the problem but they took no ownership of the installer's handiwork.  Lesson learned.

FWIW, the car is still a dream come true.

    Best of Luck,
    AJ

Re: Factory Collection contact details & Protection Film Fitting.

Thank you for sharing your experience ViperDriver. This is exactly the sort of story that makes me nervous, and puts me off using them.

My cousin had film fitted by his local OPC (PZ) in northern Germany to his new GT3. Like your story it had to be re-fitted as it was full of bubbles and stretched too much.

I am thinking about buying a pre shaped kit myself and taking it over to fit in the hotel car park ! It does not matter if it looks crap as it only has to get me home, then i can have a pro job done with someone i know and trust.

Re: Factory Collection contact details & Protection Film Fitting.

Got my GranTurismo in at Paintshield today Chris for full frontal coverage in their premium film. I spoke to Tom about you and he was going to send you an email today. His guys are excellent at installation and his kits are laser cut so there is no cutting of film on the car like some cowboys do with the subsequent potentially disastrous consequences for your paint.

Fitting the film is extremely difficult so trying to do a temporary job yourself using a pre cut kit wouldn't be a great idea and would add a lot of unecessary cost. Also if you don't fit it exactly in position sod's law say that the bit of paintwork you leave exposed will be the one that gets chipped.

The Maserati is the 6th car I've had Tom do and my California will be going there when it arrives in the next two weeks. The Ferrari/Maserati dealer I use now has seen two of my cars and was so impressed with the work (as were several of their customers) that they've got Paintshield in to do a Calfornia this Friday.

Thanks for all your help mate. Tom sent me an email today and he is offering a great price to send one of his chaps to the factory and do the work for me. Not much more than the UK price. I am chuffed as i have seen his work and it is great. I  wanted him or someone he would recommend to touch the car. All i need to do now is talk to the factory collection people and arrange a space for him to work (hopefully they will accommodate this ?)

I also got a mail back from the OPC in Stuttgart and they said they would have to cut the film on the car so NO WAY !!

Re: Factory Collection contact details & Protection Film Fitting.

    Chris,

Glad you're getting it sorted with Tom. He'll do a first class job and, most importantly, give you a warranty on his work.

Probably best to get a contact name at the Porsche collection centre I'd suggest and speak to them direct as they'll probably be more accomodating with you than they would with your UK dealer. Installation takes up to 4 hours depending on the areas of the car you want covered. I should think Porsche will be very impressed with the end results themselves.

Happy to have been of help.

    Regards,

    Iain
