Not sure I understand. The parkassist will only come one when you have the car in reverse. It is used to assist you in parking. Now sure how a car that is following you can set off the park assist unless you are going in reverse and the car behind you is moving forward. Now this would not be good.
False. Dealer is CLUELESS. If Park Assist were set up this way, the beeps would sound every time you slow or stop at an intersection and someone pulls up behind you. Active in reverse only.
Unless the dealer's referring to the "KITT - from Knight Rider" option? (someone hilariously mentioned in another thread)

Do you get a beep when you engage reverse gear? I have Parking Assist on my audi and it beeps to let me know I have selected reverse. Is this the same on a 997?
Yes, when your car is in reverse but you are rolling forward down a hill with your clutch pedal in all the way, the car behind you would be tailgating you at 18 inches and then he get's lazy/aggressive and starts tailgating in 12 inches you'd know he was getting too close because the frequency of the beeps would increase. Whatever you do: do NOT let the clutch out to "teach the tailgater a lesson."
I have an Audi Allroad and yes the parkassist beeps when you engage reverse. It is the same on the 997S. The parkassist on both the Audi and 997/997S works only when the reverse is engaged.

If you have "seat memory" option you keep your mirror switch on the right mirror, when you go into rev our cars will adjust the right mirror slightly downward.
Won't work without "seat memory," won't work with PA only. Sure SOUNDS like it should work with PA; but not in manual.

He is perhaps getting confused with the system on the Cayenne. This does alert you to other objects getting close to you when travelling at very slow speed.
