X6 M - Snow Driving (comparison with various 4WD cars)
German Auto, Motor und Sport just compared the BMW X6 M with other 4WD cars.
Here are the results (verdict: the X6 M impressed a lot on snow, they called it the "powerful" because of it's magnificent traction, a "Mammoth" on snow but braking without ESP was tricky):
Handling Dynamics on a 780 m long snow covered mountain hill (5%), ESP turned off, fastest first, 0-80 kph snow performance in brackets:
1. Audi S4 3.0 TFSI (8.9 sec.)
2. Nissan GT-R (12.2 sec.)
3. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (8.3 sec.)
4. BMW X6 M (9.2 sec.)
5. Mercedes E350 CDI 4-matic (9.3 sec.)
6. Subaru Outback 3.6 R (10.9 sec.)
7. BMW X1 x-Drive 28i (9.5 sec.)
8. Opel Insignia 2.8 V6 OPC (9.7 sec.)
9. Mercedes GLK 350 4-matic (10.1 sec.)
10. Porsche 911 Turbo FL (11.3 sec.)
Btw: BMW (and maybe Audi, Mercedes and Opel too) cheated a little bit. Their tires were H winter tires. To my knowledge, the X6 M uses Continental V tires for the "typical" recommended BMW winter tire set. The X6 M tested in this comparison had Goodyear Ultragrip H tires. Good to know...
Still...impressive performance in snow, I always thought that the X5/X6 4WD system is actually not very good. Seems I have been wrong.
