Any word from the factory on the following issues:

    1. Lifting System Malfunction

    2. Reduced engine performance + Fault engine control

Is Porsche still stuck in time with the global financial crisis ?

Prices have risen, but quality enlightened e.g. my two 958 Cayenne's full of faults and now the new GT3 and god knows what else is on the way (macan?) angry

I am beginning to wonder about Porsche's supplier network. Too many early failures. Isn't there a quality control process within Porsche to monitor what the suppliers are providing them?

BTW, is the 991GT3 lift have problems? First I heard of it.

Maybe just bad luck? My Porsche cars have been impeccable in the past (and no, not all of them were ordered, so Porsche didn't have the chance to "provide" a perfect car). According to the mechanics at my dealership, the latest gen Porsche models has proven to be so trouble free that they are already worrying about their jobs. Smiley Every time I take a look into the repair shop, I see mainly older models like 996 or 955.

Different tracks have different focuses and can probably exploit the assets of each car better. NoS probably requires a more precise handling while Hockenheim plays to the TTS more brute force.

    Just a guess.

It's actually the opposite, which is why many find the results curious Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

Yes, actually the 991 Turbo S should rule the Nordschleife like no other car in this category, so something was clearly off. I still put my bet on the tires, the asphalt temperature was 13°C only and for UHP tires, this is way too cold. Even if they build up heat, it won't be enough to provide maximum grip at this temperature, at least not for the first couple of kilometers. I also have a different suspicion since Sport Auto earned a lot of hate with the GT3 Supertest but i don't want to go that far and accuse them of providing worse test results to please the (typical reader) crowd.

Some people claim that HvS may not be as fast as Christian Gebhardt (the guy who did the Hockenheim test) but I still think the tires are to blame. This whole HvS "bashing" is going on for some time and I still don't think he deserves it.

Also, the active aerodynamics, another possibility to think of, can be counter productive in achieving faster track times on a high speed track due to the increased downforce. It would have been interesting to see a review in Sport mode only, with active aerodynamics in highway/Autobahn mode, not in track mode. Actually, I would like to see how the Turbo S performs with street tires, since no Turbo S owner in his right mind would put UHP tires on it (what for?) unless he wants to track race the car very very often.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

OK. I asked my friend who works for company that publish SA/AMS about that "strange" Hockenheim and Ring times of 991 TurboS and GT3.

Here is an short quotes from his email:

"...Hockenheim is basically a flat track. Difference in altitude is almost 0m so, you can not test suspension quality there a lot. Specially, real world-read landstrasse conditions. Turbo S achieved that excellent time in full Sport + mode and PDCC is helping a lot on flat track like Hockenheim.

Ring is different story despite what Porsche claim Turbo S is little bit too soft in softer suspension mode for the Ring and little bit too hard in Sport + mode. Look at curve speed and you will see where is GT3 faster. GT3 suspension is far better tuned for the Ring, both HvS and CG thinks the same about it."

Pardon my ignorance but I see two different wings on those pictures, so what´s the story behind that? Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

I see 3 different wings. 1 is a standard 991 GT3 wing, 1 is a slighter larger GT3-style wing that we have seen on most RS test-cars, and the 3rd is a massive cup-car like wing. These are just test mules so no guarantee that any of these are final production RS wings (but I have a feeling they will go with something extreme like the largest one).

I actually agree. With modern technology, retractable wings shouldn't be a real issue (maybe weight) but whenever I'm in the US, Porsche owners drive around with the extended Panamera or 911 wing, so I think people want the wing to be seen, not hide it. Never saw such a thing in Germany but from discussions with Porsche owners, it is my understanding that a wing is mandatory, especially if the car is faster than the "average" Porsche. Weird.

Just imagine a GT3 with a clean 991 50 year ann. edition look. I would love it.

The other problem with the wing is it blocks the rear view visibility. Those that had not owned a GT3 and recently took delivery have complained about not being able to see through the back window.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

The wing looks great on the track because it has a purpose there, but when driving off the track it doesn't come off so well.  I think this was less a discussion issue w/ previous GT3s since there was less consideration given to non-track use than w/ the PDK 991 GT3.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 911 GT3 (991)

    I like this conclusion... :)

"Presented with £150k and the choice of any current 911 we’d still make a beeline for the GT3, which has a sharper PDK gearbox, more interactive steering, a 200kg weight advantage, a wonderful naturally aspirated engine, and the ability to deliver more interactive highs. But the Turbo S is faster, more usable, a more complete car, and thus one heck of a 911."

    "More interactive steering"? ;)

We've heard of missing 4wd system, sunroof, XL cup holders, softer springs and quieter exhaust note.

The good ol' manual is already gone, so more weight will be added soon to the GT3 and we'd go back and ask ourselves, why do we need a GT3 when there's already the Turbo S ? Smiley  Smiley

Both, the GT3 and the Turbo S make sense but apparently some people want to have both worlds in one car.

My suggestion to Porsche: Build a Turbo RS or a GT3 without the rear wing and with backseats. Or both. They would make sense too.

I'm not so sure. The GT3's rawer character (main reason why people find it attractive) would subsequently suffer if Porsche offered a variant with the same level of comfort, look and usability as a Carrera.

The denomination "GT3" hints to motorsport and a racing pedigree. Removing the rear wing and adding rear seats, would simply break this link.

That's just the "softer" emotional side of it.

The "harder" technical factor is that when you start by adding back in the 15 kg of weight of the rear seat system and either eliminate the downforce at the rear of the car by removing the fixed wing, or alternatively add even more weight for a complex moveable wing which somehow might manage to achieve the same downforce as the fixed version, then you have departed not only from the spirit of the GT3 but also from its performance.

Thats exactly my point. Porsche cannot "afford" to offer a GT3 and...another GT3. This is why I would offer let's say a 991 Carrera RS or GTS with the GT3 engine, chassis and technology (incl. AWS) but with let's say 460 hp only and no rear wing but back seats. This car would be much sportier than the Carrera S, it would be highly desirable (GT3 technology) but it wouldn't really appeal to the typical hardcore GT3 customer. At the same time, Porsche could actually charge the same price for this car because yes, I would be willing to pay big bucks for such a car and I am pretty sure others would too. It doesn't matter if this car would be half a second slower from 0-200 kph or a reduced Vmax of let's say 305 or 310 kph.

It would be a shame to keep the GT3 engine for the GT3 only.
