    As far as I know the glass itself is not tinted at all. Its the frame which is colored black instead silver.

    That's always possible, but in the picture provided by RC, the headlight lenses and other hardware bits look dimmed by the same amount as the surrounding background.  That indicates to me some treatment in the glass cover, and not on the innards.

    But, you could still be correct.

    looks like its got the surronding area painted in black, lots of cars have this. My first 1998 xk8 had all "bright" headlights, my 1995 xk8 has the new darker ones. Same headlight, painted different on the inside(yet end up looking very different). A can of spray paint, masking tape and silicone is all you really need to "do this" on you car. Not a big deal..

    I had all the lights tinted black on my car.  Front, back, and side.

     but also the inside "lenses" look much darker through the covers which would lead to believe that the cover is tinted as well, or maybe its an effect of the picture  

    mmh..i think is all fault of the darker parts inside,and also the lenses have a darker aspect..due to darker reflex of the parts around them..

     

    Regarding the original subject, indeed only the plastic bezel (that usually has a chrome finish) is painted in a darker colour. The lenses and the headlight cover are the same as on the regular headlight version.

    Yes, there is some loss of light output but I like the look enough to put up with it.  And I use the fogs now when I drive at night.

    It would look better if the whole car would be painted in stealth (matte) black. Saw this once on a GT2, looked great. Here's a photo of a 997 Cab in matte black (looks "lighter" than it is in reality).

    I like the OEM blackened headlight option on cayenne... Black on the inside while front cover remains clear!

    I'm not a friend of mat black cars, but this one I have to admit is looking stunning Smiley The GT3 bumper on a cab is something I normally don't like either but again - Smiley

    I have matte painted rims on my 997 Turbo, I started with it over 3 years ago when it wasn't quite "in". Nowadays I see many many Porsche and other cars with black painted rims.

    I agree, it is a matter of taste but I always liked matte black.

    It is even pretty easy to get a matte black painted car: using self-adhesive foil. You can change the color of your car to whatever you want without the need to paint it.

    I don't have a price quote but last time I checked, it was something around 1500 EUR for the complete car, removal MUCH less. Not bad.
