PCA Orange County or PCA San Diego

I am thinking about signing up with PCA. Do you think it is worth it and if so which region should I sign up with Orange County or San Diego? I am currently living in orange county but I heard S.D. chapter is more active.

Re: PCA Orange County or PCA San Diego

I just sent my application over a week ago; Orange County. Is it too late if I want to switch to San Diego?? I haven't heard back yet from anyone yet.

I want to get involved in some track day/driver education events ASAP.

I too am wanting to know which chapter is more active since I 'live' in both counties.

Re: PCA Orange County or PCA San Diego

How and where do you sign up???

Just goto pca.org, there's an online app. 1/2/3 yr memberships avail.

    MHakkinen,

I don't think you can change which chapter you are in once you signed up but I might be wrong. By the way, how much did you pay for your new car prep by your car detail guy? Just picked up my car on friday and i have already notice a few swirl marks.

Yeah I read that you had swirl marks upon delivery on one of your other posts. They guy I wound up choosing for my dealer prep/initial detail just happened to have a working relationship with Newport Auto Center. Found out that dealers don't like anyone handling their cars until the customer has signed the paperwork on the car (the proverbial "driven the car off the lot") because of the liability issue- makes sense. So what results most of the time is the customer ends up with a car full of swirl marks. Best scenario is if you know how to properly detail yourself ask the dealer ahead of time to not touch the car other than remove the protective stuff from shippping.

To answer your question I think I paid a little over $300 for that detail. I admit that sounds expensive, but for that I received a full Zymol three step treatment, a kit full of all the Zymol products needed to maintain the car (including microfiber towels, wheel brushes, etc.), plus a tech session where he comes to your house and teaches you to detail your car efficiently using little product as possible. Also there are choices in wax, and the one I went with sells for $400 a jar. I've since purchased a jar for myself, now I can perform complete details from claybar to final wax knowing that I won't accidentally damage my paint (no swirl marks!)

Holy crap I just realized that I've hijacked the thread- sorry! I'm just over enthusiastic about keeping my car detailed; I found a guy who's very passionate about it and he's as professional as they come. If you need anymore info or if you're looking for a detailer who can eliminate your swirl marks shoot me a PM.

Sorry again about going off topic- umm yes, I'll contact PCA and see if it's not too late to switch chapters since I'm still in the "processing" stage of things. But the question still remains- which chapter is better for driving events?

Re: PCA Orange County or PCA San Diego

I thought PCA chapters were based on where you live. San Diego is more active, but all that is required to participate is PCA membership from any region.

On the swirl marks, picked up a black Audi A3 and it had rotary buffer swirl marks. Now its going to be turned over to the lawyers...

Re: PCA Orange County or PCA San Diego

As a PCA member you can change your region affiliation at any time. You can also have dual region affiliation. Personally I have dealt with both regions and find both are top notch. There are some OC members that have the most incredible collections of cars, and down south they have great activities. Don't forget that in 2007 that Parade is hosted by San Diego Region.

BTW, swirl marks will go away even on dark solid color cars with a good application of a Swirl remover like Meguires #9 Swirl remover or Adams Swirl and Haze remover. Put these product on either by hand or with a orbital buffer with a soft red pad set at medium speed, and then take the haze off by hand with a microfiber towel.
