    M5-M6: why its 334km/h...

    It seems BMW hid an "easter-egg" in the limiter of the I-Drive menu ... just to show the driver how fast his car went on the salt lakes...

    go to the "Navigation" menu, call the function "Limit" and chose the speed.

    let the speed scroll up ... 50 ... 100 ... 150 ... 200 ... 250 (the fastest speed you can SET) ... 300 ... 330 ... 331 ... 332 ... 333 ... 334 km/h - This is where the limiter stops...

    and then you'll see this:

    Politics and also it's a gentleman agreement between some of the big car manufacturers, incl. BMW, Audi and Mercedes.
    No reason to compete above 250 they seem to think...and it's also pretty hard to find a place wher3e you can actually go much faster than 250 km/h, let alone 300 kmh.
    Most limiters can be broken easily, though.

    I don't really understand that I always thought it was an aerodynamics issue. What about people who want to punch it on the Autobahn or some track, I mean if Porsche or Ferrari put in a speed limiter, people would riot.

    could just be a tire issue with the heft bmw and mb engineer into thier cars.

    As Dr. Phil wrote, it was a voluntary agreement between some of the German car manufacturers, intended to preempt attempts by some poleticians some years ago to impose blanket speed limits on all Autobahns. Porsche was not party to that agreement.

    Yes, it is a gentlement agreement. And they can save $$ for aerodynamics design, tires testing, compete with top speed, etc...
