Things I do NOT like about new 997. And You? When changes?

I was all excited about ordering an S but now I'm just blah about it.

The mess of buttons and monitor in the interior REALLY bug me.

The wheels on the S are toooo busy and arbitrarily odd-looking.

The lack of a console delete option is a bummer too (odd, because I looooove the old 911 dash line).

Everything else I like (front lights, specs, etc).

What hope do I have that they will change any of these things that bother me, or offer options, in the near future?

Other than the headlights and 993 references,Do you have anything that you dislike about the new models?

I think all of your objections can be overcome:

1.) Wheels are optional - there are some other nice 19's that can be ordered for the S.

2.) Console delete will most likely be available once the 997GT3 is released

3.) Monitor and its buttons will be banished with GT3 console delete most likely

Unless you have more serious concerns, I wouldn't let the above stop your order...

Re: Things I do NOT like about new 997. And You? When changes?

It's expensive, but ordering full carbon interior would at least rid the interior of all that Cayenne - looking " alumi-look " painted plastic so that all the little square black buttons on the center stack are less noticable.
If I were ordering my 997 Turbo today, I'd get the new dark cocoa interior with full carbon and get the two tone brown / black Carrera GT steering wheel instead of the bland ones that have been previewed . I'd pair it with black exterior and darken the bumper mounted turn signals as the best way to work around some things I don't like about the 997 ext/int design changes .

Re: Things I do NOT like about new 997. And You? When changes?

I'm concerned about the variable-ratio steering. I know, I know, RC says this isn't as bad as it seems, but to me the one thing on the 996 that was beyond reproach was the steering. There were a number of things "broken" on the 996--lack of power, quality of materials used in the interior, weight--but to me steering was definitely not one of them. In the 997 base form, Porsche really didn't address the power, and they certainly did not address the weight. Quality of materials is said to be better, though, but I think the 996's interior is so much better designed than the 997's.

So to answer your question, here are my problems with the 997 (before having seen it in person):

    1. Variable-ratio steering

    2. Unconfident design on the exterior and interior (by that, I mean Porsche seems to be retreating into a design language that was familiar and comfortable for them, rather than forging ahead and pushing the 911's evolution in the same way the 996 did)

    3.Weight

Re: Things I do NOT like about new 997. And You? When changes?

How can you say you don't like certain details if you didn't see the car yet?
Wait until it shows up and you see it in person and then we can talk again. I'm sure you forget about one or two points you mentioned but you might also find one or two other things which you dislike. Just wait and see.

Re: Things I do NOT like about new 997. And You? When changes?

No ofense dude, but if i was you i would buy a 993, do some costmic changes and mechanic changes and there you go...the 997 of your dreams..

    woshhhhhhhhh

Re: Things I do NOT like about new 997. And You? When changes?

the more i look at the 997 interior, the more i appreciate the curves and dynamic surfaces of the 996/986 generation interior.

Re: Things I do NOT like about new 997. And You? When changes?

I agree - I don't feel there's anything fundamentally wrong with the 986/996 interior. I think the curves work well, especially on the doors. Sure the switches on the centre console could be better, but overall I like the look of the graphite grey full leather on my Boxster S. The smattering of alu-look trim finishes it off well.

Havings said that, I like the 997 interior also, but I think thats got something to do with being a gadget freak and having one on order....
