    Cayenne Engine Response

TSB #2470, dated 7/18/2006, for Cayenne/Cayenne S/Cayenne Turbo model years 2003 through 2006 with Tiptronic Transmission, concerning the DME control unit and a "driver's subjective opinion: engine is slow to respond".

The "engine slow to respond" condition is said to be created when the brake and accelerator are pressed simultaneously for some period of time causing the DME to reduce engine torque.

The DME control unit software was changed as of April 3, 2006 and extends the period of time the brake and accelerator can be pressed simultaneously before engine torque is reduced. Existing control units can be reprogrammed with the PIWIS Tester.

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

does that cure the 'hesitation' issue ?
i received my cayenne turbo august 2006 and it too like my previous cayenne suffers from hesitation.

I hate to even think that it might, there have been so many "cures" in the past that all turned out to be no cure at all. Don't get your hopes up.

But to answer your question directly, I don't think anyone knows yet. This TSB was only recently issued. I don't know of anyone who has had it done, or that even knows about it. Give it some time. But again, don't get too excited.

My Cayenne Turbo is going to the workshop on the 2nd of October for some minor bugs that need to be repaired. I will bring this up with the Technician and see what he says. If they have this newer version I will try it out on my car and see if that doesn't cure the hesitation. Will keep you guys posted.

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

    No Gary. I checked, lol

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

I scheduled to have the DME software update tomorrow. I will post here if there is any different. BTW, my Cayenne is a S.

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

I just got the software update. Maybe I'm wrong but throttle response seems a tick better now, the throttle doesn't feel like it is connected to some sort of rubber band anymore, well, at least not as much as it felt before.
I still have to see if there has been any improvement regarding taking-off from standstill, didn't have time to check that.

I'd say that everybody should go for it, it definetely didn't make things worse.

I have a Cayenne Turbo Powerkit btw.

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

    RC,
We eagerly await your full review. BTW, do you know if the DME update is the same for Cayenne/S/Turbo/Powerkit/TurboS?
    Thanks!

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

Done yesterday on my S. great improvement off the mark and if you brake then step on it windup much quicker. thumbs up. Still hesitates however. thumbs down

The PiWiS "selects" the right software based on the model specifics. The Cayenne, Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne Turbo Powerkit/S have each a different software mapping, the variant for the Turbo Powerkit/S is the same.
Update takes some time, the PiWiS is pretty slow. At least aprox. 2 hours are necessary, maybe more to do everything right.

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

Only real "cure" that I know of is a few mods - New diverter valves, ECU repreogramming by Revo, GIAC, Techart, Cargraphic etc., other mods won't help so much with throttle response to the "spooling lag" but do improve acceleration like high flow air intakes, max flow sport exhaust and catalytic bypass pipes.

No lag for my pepper anymore fo' sho'

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

Was at the dealer, they told me the "DME Update" does not concern cars from MY06 ?!?! Is this true or did he just feed me some trash?

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

I think the update to the DME was introduced April 3, 2006 and was installed on all Cayennes with a build date after that. It was introduced with VIN #'s:

    Cayenne - 9P 66L A2 5892
    Cayenne S - 9P 36L A6 6459
    Cayenne Turbo S - 9P 86L A9 2049

A ECU update would be sufficient, I drove a Cayenne Turbo modified by a Tuner and it showed no lag whatsoever. The Tuner offered to install this update for free in my car (for exchange of a "positive" advertisement on Rennteam.com, something I refused of course) but since I prolonged my warranty, I was afraid it would create warranty problems anyway.

    Re: Cayenne Engine Response

The service manager at my dealer actually said, "you have to learn how to drive it, and the hesitation will then go away." Yeah, right.
