    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

I like how things are looking ! the cars seem fast and agile. I'm eager for the last part of the race when things get really aggressive. Smiley

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Exiting, Alonso and Massa are just sitting there behind Vettel, mirroring his lap times, waiting for the time to attack, if too early they may run out to tires and need a 3rd stop, if too late may not have enough time, but the Ferrari's seem quicker than the Redbull when ppush come to shove.icon_popcorn.gif

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Alonso takes the lead ! Massa passes to 2nd !!  this looks very promising   Vettel is doing awesome too. (go Ferrari !!)

I expected a bit more of a fight from Schumi.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

     ouch bad luck for Vettel

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

     Yes ! Ferrari 1, 2 !!

Too bad about the exhaust problems in Vettels car, he started out very strong.

Schumi was very disappointing, i was expecting him to be at least within the top 5.

Congrats to lotus for finishing with both cars on the run, the commenter just said that their budget was just 15% of Mercedes and Ferrari. The strongest of the new teams.

This looks like its going to be a good season, after the initial technical difficulties are straighten out then we will have a real fight on the track. Smiley

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Unfortunatelly the Mclarens were very slow on the option tyres, Lewis lost a lot of time on these .-(

Still I think, that the races are still boring as obviously overtaking is only possible if a car is at least 2-3 secs quicker, there was no overtaking actions under regular conditions except of the three against Sebstian Vettel due to his exhaust problems!!

Without these he would have won the race easily in front of Alonso & Massa

Schumi did great as he was just approx. 3 secs slower than Nico Rosberg in the same car over the race distance and his quickest laptimes were equal to Rosbergs.

Nico will have a hard time and has to prove his capabilities against Schumi in the races to come.

This season is going to be very interesting regarding the progress each team will have to make in order to take the lead, to win the championship

    FERRARI RULES!!!

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

1.- Fastest lap in the weekend practices sessions.

2.- Fastest lap of the race over one second faster than anyone else.

3.- Fastest pace of the race once he had clean road ahead.

4.- And finishes first. Dominant victory. And its going to be a lot like this in the next races with the Ferrari & Alonso combination.

Still would of liked to see the attack of the Ferarris on Vettel at the end of the race, the Ferraris looked like they had a faster pace, as we saw at the end of the race with Alonso's times even without having anyone behind him pressuring him. And if Vettel would do a quicker lap, inmediately the Ferarris matched it, if he did a slower one they did as well... just waiting for the end of the race to make the move on Vettel. So it would of been interesting to see, since the only overtake from the top racers in the race was Alonso on Massa on the first corner.

After the past seasons, a 1 & 2 finish for the Ferarri Team... I can only imagine the atmosphere in the ferrari box right now. And this time they have someone consistent like Alonso so this victory has even more significance.

Interesting psichological victory for Rosberg over Shumacher, and I doin't think its going to get any better for Schumy along the season, Rosberg will only get better and Schumy will not.

Good job from Hamilton, overtaking Rosberg in pit stop, and had a fast race pace once the McLaren got lighter and was on the hard tires. And shows that Button is not up to par with his teamate, never was. Don't know what he was smoking when he signed into that team, he will have no chance, he is slower than his teammate and the team revolves around his teamate on top of it. Not too long til the sparks start flying in that team.

Inspite of Vettel's result, he had a moral victory, he showed today that he (and his car-team)  and Alonso are the two contenders for the title.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Congrats for Ferrari and Fernando... the fastest lap of Alonso as Carlos said is stunning.. more than 1 second quicker than anyone else...!! Greatttttttttt!

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

could not watch this but did see some pics - I would like a nice competitive season but Wow are those cars ugly. These front wings are just hideous and must go.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Alonso won because of Vettel's exhaust problem, as I doubt that he would be able to pass him on equal terms. Massa was lucky to finish second given his fuel consumption problem.

IMO all 4 major teams have championship potential this year.

However, provided that the Ferrari monoposto stays competitive  and a Alonso stays healthy then we should not look further for the championship favourites.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

I don't understand the FIA. How hard is it to change a sport to make overtaking more commonplace? I'll give you an example of how easy it is, if you're willing to think creatively.

#1 reason why there is no overtaking: because qualifying preorders cars by speed, therefore making it unlikely that things will change once racing starts.

    Solution:

DO NOT ORDER cARS BY QUALIFYING RANK!!!! duh!!!

    So what can we do?

    1) Have an extensive qualifying session during which we clearly find out the ranking of the cars/drivers speeds'

    2) Place the cars on the grid in REVERSE order of speed.

    3) Each driver starts with 25 points

    4) Each driver gains 1 point for a position gained, and -1 for a position lost.

Every car on the track will be behind a car that is slightly slower than itself. Overtaking will be a lot more common but still a challenge. You will still have the incentive to go as fast as possible in qualifying because you want to start at the back of the grid and have the potential to gain up to 24 points.

    E.g. of results:

    Hamilton 1st in qualifying. Grid: 24th -> finish 8th: 25 + 16 positions gained = 41 points.

    Shitty Lotus car qualifies last. Grid: 1st -> finish 14th. 25 - 13 = 12 points.

    Alonso 2nd in qualifying. Grid: 24rd -> finish 5th: 25 + 18 = 43 points. WINNER!

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Wont work  because once the fastest cars have passed the really slow cars, it becomes much, much more difficult to pass the mid-field. What would happen is that the races would be won by the mid-field competitors, so qualifying would not be about obtaining the fastest time, but rather about trying to get a mid-level position. That would be as interesting to watch as watching paint dry,

Schumi attitude came across quite arrogant imo, by words of effect,,  "by my standards I should not be on average 0.4 secs per lap  slower than Rosberg",, that is disrespectful imo..

Schumi should give it a rest, its his first qualifier and should take on board the fact that Rosberg is a very good driver, as I stated before...

Vettel is a class act and love the fact that he has just a Renault lump behind him,,well done.....

I don't think that is arrogance, just that Schumacher asks a lot of himself, so he is not happy to see that.

     +1, he is just honest.

If you are happy with a gap like that to someone in the same car, you should quit your job as a race driver.

Of course any real race driver shouldn't be happy being behind, thats why they all have got to where they are now, in an F1 racing car. However, in the context of what he said I still think it was disrespectful.Could it be that the guys that he is racing against are just that little bit better than what he previously thought..If I was Rosberg and after hearing his comment's I would try for another 0.4 secs advantage..

Schumi needs to do his talking on the track, you should never let your opponent think your beginning to get rattled..

So it is disrespectful to compare yourself to others? And I think he did his talking on the track, 7 titles....don't you?

No, not at all, depending on how you voice it..

7 titles is a great acheivment and if (a big if) he gets the eighth then that would be the sweetest, specially with the current driver's out there..Imo however,, 8th championship win is doubtful...

Vettel very unlucky. During the race Alonso caught Vettel up, then Vettel manage to up his game by pulling ahead and was holding his lead very nicely until then mechanical cost him. Vettel seem to have the measure of Alonso, imo..

    Should be a cracking season..

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

That's not true. If you start in the midfield you can only gain about 10 points or so, whereas if you start in the back you can get 20+ points. it doesn't matter if you are behind mid-field cars because those cars will go through the slow cars, as will you. whether you can go through mid-field cars as well will determine whether you get more than 10 points.

PLUS if you start in the back, you can not lose any points, even if your car breaks down. you already have your 25 starting points guaranteed. In fact you will gain a point for every car that breaks down in front of you.

    It just works.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

e.g. if you aim for 12th on the grid of 24 cars then:

    - best case scenario 37 points (finish 1st, 25 starting ponts + 12 positions gained)

    - worst case scenario 13 points (finish last, so 25 start points - 12 positions lost)

Whereas if you get the fastest qualifying time (24th on the grid) :

    - best case scenario 49 points (finish 1st, 25 starting ponts + 24 positions gained)

    - worst case scenario 25 points (finish last, so 25 start points + 0 positions gained)

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

You only get +20 points if you manage to over take at least 20 cars. That is the problem. The reason that the front runners open such a gap is because they are not mixed up in mid-field traffic, so if the fast cars start at the back, they will be held up in mid-field whilst the leading average speed car in the front, will open such a gap that the fast cars wouldn't be able to catch them.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

IT doesn't matter. you will earm the most points on average the further back you start. No matter how you look at it, you are incentivized to start as far back as possible, guaranteeing your 25 starting points and opening the potential to get a lot more points as well.

You have nothing to gain by starting near the front, and everything to lose. Starting in the middle will guarantee mediocre results at best.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Ok ,but not the type of racing I want to watch. Sorry.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Fair enough. I think it's briliiant though, because the result will be a combination of speed on qualifying day (mostly the car) and overtaking performance on race day (large driver ability component). Anyway, I'll tell Bernie about it if I ever cross him in the street.

San Marino / Europe / Germany - all Raikkonen DNF; 2006 Japan - Schumacher DNF; 2008 Japan/Singapur...etc.). When Vettel is done with Alonso, that little of his fame surving his outperformance by a rookie in 2007...is also gone and history. But worth to mention that he was able to overtake a quick teammate, without asking his team to order it...(Canada 2005, Indianapolis 2007).

Great job for Ferrari they seem to have some of that magic back and seem to have a great package this year. Congrats to Alonsino and his crew. Sad to see SV struggling and falling behind, hopefully they can improve and fight next time around. It was a great race, but still no overtaking...... im sorry what?
