turbolite:In your situation there can be only one answer: The new VW Multivan!
To be honest: before I find myself driving a VW Multivan, I'd rather kill myself.
If I don't kill myself, my wife would do the job for me.
Well, in Gnils case it would be a HUGE improvement from a C8, no doubt about that... but i understand that after having been forced to drive such a 'thing' he would want to look for something more 'sexy' ....

Nissan is still japanese. Renault made an alliance with Nissan, they don't own it.
Renault owns 44,3% of Nissan, Nissan owns 15% of Renault.
Nissan is NOT french and it is still a japanese company.

Renault pulls the strings, the current Renault CEO was Nissan CEO...
The current Renault CEO is Nissan CEO. I think you're mixing up some things.
Renault Nissan has one CEO, Mr. Ghosn, a Brazilian of lebanese descent.
Two separate companies under one roof, Mr. Ghosn pulls the strings in both companies.
This is a pretty unique constellation in the automobile business.

So he went from Nissan CEO to Nissan and Renault CEO
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

So now you see why Nissan is french
No, I don't. Nissan is a japanese company.
Is it french because it has a brazilian lebanese born CEO ?
Is it french because it has an alliance with french Renault ?
Nissan doesn't produce a single car in France.
If you meant it as a joke or some sort of sarcasm, I may understand though.

I have 3 boys, aged 4,6 and 7.5 and I can't find the right car to buy as a family car.
The sensible family mover in the US is the Honda Odissey.

My wife has now said very clearly that she refuses to have another '' mother's '' car !
She want to look good in what she drives and not look like she is just a kid's transporter
So nothing that looks useful and practical ( vans, monospace are all out )
That leaves me with a SUV or a nice station wagon . But which one will fit comfortably 3 kids in the back , luggage to go on skiing trips in the trunk and not be too big for daily usage in the city ? ( GL, Q7 are too big )

A 7 seater is the way to go then and if GL and Q7 are too big, then the next size down SUV in width is the Q5, but fitting 3 kids with their chairs in the back of it would be a challenge, and a stationwagen even less since they are even narrower than Q5. Maybe if you buy three new chairs especialy selected because they are narrow
I used google and found this, a guy says he fits 3 britax marathon car seats in the rear of an Audi All-Road... if thats the case they they should fit on the Q5.

Short and simple reply to this car:
(don't want to hurt anybody's feelings but I guess my wife would rather ride a bicycle than be seen in one of these )

Yes... a 7 seater is needed. I must try it out in a Q5, see if I can fit the seats.
That info is positive, thanks
The Discovery would also work but it weights 2.7 t !!!! And is really orientated to off road which I would hardly ever do . A waist of it's purpose and I loss in nice driving feelings

I agree, I don't think your wife will like how the Discovery drives either, heavy and sluggish, soft sprung, poor steering.
I'm due to receive the Q5 for my wife in a month, I could try and see if three child chairs will fit back there and get back to you if you haven't already checked that by then yourself

I do not like it either, but it is practical and sensible... The Audis and Beamers, and such, are far smaller, far less practical and far more expensive (2x).
