Lots of people modifying their S to look like a turbo

My question is why do people do this? the retrofit cost is around 10,000 USD here to retrofit the S to *LOOK* like a turbo along with the decal and twin pipes. I dont know if this is just a local thing, but why make it look like a TuRbO just get a turbo! One thing that gives the car away though is the brake pads thats the only thing that you cant get modified, Black=Cayenne Silver=S Red=Turbo

Some explanations I found during my "research" work to answer exactly this question:

1. people bought the "S" because they thought they don't need more power on a truck and regret it now
2. people got the "S" and not the Turbo because they're housewifes, students or just kids with rich parents and the "sponsor(s)" didn't want them to kill themselves in the Turbo
3. people don't have enough money for a Turbo but they want to show off
4. people like the look of the Turbo (powerdomes, additional front air inlets, red brake calipers, etc.)

Pick one...

some people buy the S because they couldnt afford the turbo, and gradually save up money to buy parts and eventually dump so much money into the S that they could buy a turbo in the first place

however, this is over a period of time.

this also explains the 'ricer' effect. in which some people buy a honda, and subsequently spend years modding it and modding it.

in the end, when you calcualte their 'input', it adds up to plenty of money to buy something much better, and many people say "why didn't you buy an M3, or a porsche in the first place"

the important thing to remember is that these people spend most of their disposable income on the car, but this is compounded on a monthly basis and not a one time thing

When I bought my S I added so many options my dealer often asked, "Why don't you just buy a Turbo." My response was always that I didn't really want a Turbo. I didn't like the look, I didn't want the rear air conditioner, and heated seats? I live in Texas, what would I do with heated seats? The power was an interesting draw but I have always been fundamentally opposed to blowers, for reasons of reliability and low end torque. I think Porsche has solved both these problems long ago but, I still have my prejudices anyway. Sorry.

I have driven Cayenne Turbos and like them, especially on the track. They can give you that extra kick out of the corners and on the straight that the S leaves you wishing you had. I don't see any advantage to the Turbo off-road. My S has always had more than enough power there.

Modifying your car? I think it may be age related. I used to hot-rod and modify cars. My experience has been that you can sometimes make a fast car faster but modifying a slower car is often a waste of money, unless you really go big-time into engine mods, like higher compression and altered cams. But those pedestrian motors aren't really designed for the stress those mods introduce so engine life is drastically reduced. As I've become older I am coming around to the conclusion: If you want a fast car, buy a fast car, don't waste your money trying to make a slow car fast, it's not worth it.

If I had been lured into buying a Cayenne Turbo, I think I may be looking for ways to make it look like an S. I really prefer the S styling, cleaner and less provocative. It may also come from my street racing days when everyone wanted to hide what they had under the hood. Even though the emblem on the side said "327" you secretly had stuffed a big block "427" under there. A stealth racer, and a big surprise for any challenger.

I bought an S because I need a family car ,the Turbo is too expencive to use it always ("drinks " a lot of fuel ) , for driving experience I prefer 911 .
I think that "S" has a right power : 240 km/h and 7.0 0-100 for a suv is perfect !
but I prefer the "turbo" bumper ...but it's not 4 me ..I like my car the same way ,and I hate who would only appear ...

In italy Radio there is an DJ that jokes with Cayenne owners .....he say that if u have an S version u are a poor boy ...

dad will never allow me to get a car that has a turbo sign or supercharged sign, I guess this is for safety. I am not trying to make my S looks like a Turbo, instead I modify my S to look like a better looking S

People told me that red calipers look better, yes they do look more striking and better but does it look like a turbo wannabe? YES, so I did not take this option and I personally think silver looks good and matches my wheels

Secondly, turbo bumper looks good? hell yes! Do I want one? Yes if I get a bodykit. I changed my S bumper few months ago because there was a small dent, someone hit it in a parallel parking, and I changed it back to the stock S.

Thirdly, my tips? they are dual tips, it looks way better than the single tips and that is why I bought them. To make it look like a Turbo? no! its just for aesthetic view.

Lastly, do I like the Turbo? hell yes, I want one but not sometime soon

maybe when I can afford it myself ^^

btw the modification is not recomended by porsche
