    Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

My father jsut got a 996 GT3 but he seems to be still set on getting a 997tt something I think he shouldn't do right now but what can I do but try to convince him.
Question: Is it a good idea to have both these cars?
Two issue I have with it: Are they different enough as to offer a unique driving experience when you get in each, or is owning 2 911's at once when you could own 1 911 and something else silly. I've always had the philosophy that if you could own two cars you should rather own two that are more different so each time you get in the car its not like being in the other one. I would prefer him to keep the 996 GT3 and then see what options there are within the next year whether it be the V10 R8 Audi, Lotus Esprit or some other options.
The other issue is is the turbo still the best in class, thats opinion obviously but i'd like to know what you think about it.

    Your dad is my hero!

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

But honestly, If I had a GT3 and I had the means and garage space, I'd get a few other non-mainstream vehicles for good measure...

You have told us your and your father's philosophy. What is your mother's philosophy?

huh? lol i don't quite get it...

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

IMHO owning a GT3 and a 997TT would be great. One is a true sports car the other is a great (GT/sports car) daily driver.

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

Sell both and buy a Carrera GT...
Or if you want to have 2 cars buy something else (maybe a F430 if you can or a Gallardo)...

I love GT3 but i cant say the same for 997tt..

If you ask your mother what she thinks, she might be able to suggest a practical solution.

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

I am in the same situation.

I already own a 996 GT3 which is tracked heavily and quite seriously prepped as such.

I need a new GT style car that would be well suited to long journeys and for dates/etc. (They simply don't appreciate the straight pipes and hard suspension )

These two cars would compliment eachother very well.

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

    VERY GOOD IDEA!!!!!

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

your father should absolutely take a 997TT, it is absolutely fantastic. It is perfect for everything except maybe for racing on a track but for that you have your 996gt3

really the 997TT is worth going for it. In my opinion it is the 996gt3 that you should sell for something else.

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

I have a RUF modified 996TT and a 997 GT3 on order. The GT3 is much more of a pure driving experience and the TT is a fast GT cruiser in comparison. Personally I miss the raw, more connected to the car and less insulated driving experience of the older Porsche's and hopefully the GT3 will supply that. I'm keeping the TT as more of an everyday car and when I want that throw me back in the seat acceleration you get from big torque.

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

I would get two different cars if I was in the position. Sure a TT and GT3 are great cars and are different but not that different (to me).

    Re: Owning a 997tt and a GT3, good idea?

I bought a 997s and kept my 03 987S. The Boxster just sits there. Shouldda got rid of it. Ask your dad if his driving skills are sooooo sensitized that the two cars are reeeeeally diffrent experiences. Ask your dad if he thinks of himself as a car collector. I think it's a waste of resources ($ and garage space), unless he tracks the GT3 on a weekly basis.

Picking up a date with any Porsche is a mistake! Try something a little more frugal to start.
