    MSN frontpage story on 997 turbo

    I stopped argueing about manual/Tip choices because some people started mocking me and I came to the conclusion that sometimes it isn't worth it to try to help people to make a decision, especially if they keep their story, no matter if they've driven Tip or not. Even worse, some don't even know how to drive Tip, they think it is just a matter of using the throttle and brake. Well...
    Like I said before, it is a "men's" thing, the stick. God forbit if they would be seen with Tip, some people may think they can't shift/drive.

    To each his own I guess, I'm very happy with my choice with one exception: starting-off from standstill. And I hate the exhaust/engine sound, it may sound nice when fully accelerating but still not like a sportscar from Porsche should sound. Very disappointing. Otherwise, I'm happy with my 997 Turbo.

    A winter wheel set for the 997 Turbo is aprox. 5300 Euro (incl. TPMS) incl. 16% german VAT. Ouch.

    True but I actually don't want to make anybody drink, I just want to make the horse understand that water sometimes tastes different.

    Great that in CA one doesn't need to pay/deal w/nuisance of winter tires/wheels, storing summer stuff, etc etc .....but I'm sure the cheaper land/housing in Greenwich, LkForest, etc more than makes up for the winter weather unpleasantries/costs; Germany has redeeming stretches of derestricted AB (when weather permits); and London???....well, London is close enough to Germany to house one's fair-weather, high-speed missles at a wkend house....

    Lambo winter wheels/tires are deceptively "cheaper" ....reality is 99%+ of guys can't show up at office/mtgs w/a Lambo w/o costly, negative "image" issues in US/Lond/Germany anyway, so one needs to also pay for a socially acceptable S/SL/CL/997TT for daily use

    However, one can subsist w/a single, workhorse 997TT for all business/wkend purposes w/no issues....making 997TT a fairly sound value on a "per use" basis vs any comparables....

    VK, then those guys are sheep. Let the conformists drive in lock step self doubt and worry about what others think. Those people usually make their social firing squads in
    circles anyway.

    If I want to drive a Lambo to the office, Im driving a frkkin Lambo to the office. If they dont like it, too bad.
    I can fire them or tell them to FOAD. Its none of their business now is it?

    Your time is your money, dont let others spend it for you.

    I know that meak passive aggressive trust funders are typical for some in those areas you named, but I will drive what I want to because I want to.

    Just wanted to chime in on this.

    I spoke to the guys at Fairfield Motorsports and he told me that the reason all Porsches sound muted in terms of exhaust (with exception of the Carrera GT) is that they have to pass stringent Swiss sound requirements and that they use that Swiss-conforming standard on all their exhausts (987, 997, etc) world wide.

    Can any one confirm that there is any truth to this?
