Mission E Video (hope it's not a repost)

    Nice!

Re: Mission E Video (hope it's not a repost)

Very interesting. Would have been even more interesting to have seen more on the development of the technical side of the car, rather than just the styling departments involvement. Its narrative gives the impression to the uninitiated that car concepts and designs are driven by the stylists. But I suspect that it was a conscious management decision not to give away anything on the cars technology at this stage of the project

It is interesting that Porsche allowed this video to go public because it gives a very unique insight in what is going to come next to Porsche models (interior). I guess no real surprise but Porsche is working hard on making their models fit for the 21st century. I saw a sketch of the 992 speedo cluster, very yummy and very digital. Smiley Smiley

Hybrid is the future for Porsche, at least for now. The Mission E is not a sportscar.

The Mission E will be no bargain. Tesla asks 150k EUR for their fully loaded high performance version. Porsche won't stand back, believe me. Smiley

I have posted the price tag for Mission e - base (500 km) and "turbo" (600 hp) model and you are totally wrong with your price tag for the base model(500 km range no 600 hp).

Panamera is one level over mission e or J1 how it is called internal.

Funny, Porsche hasn't even finished price calculations but you know the prices?! Smiley

There is a price target, which also means that either the car needs to be changed (tech, design, etc.) or the price target needs to be raised. There is also a gain margin target which needs to stay basically the same, so any current price estimate will go up in the end because this car won't see the markets before 2019 or 2020. Porsche is still working on that and no matter how good your source is, unless it is Puttfarcken but even he doesn't know the final price tags yet, so... This is no one man decision, there is a white paper on the Mission E but nothing more. The car is in full development but Porsche will certainly adapt the price target until the car is actually ready to go.

Then, there is performance. Porsche has a 0-100 kph time of 3.5 sec. and a 0-200 kph time in slightly under 12 seconds in mind for the over(!) 600 hp version. The Tesla P85d does it basically in the same time and not in a couple of years but now. I am pretty sure that even in a 1-2 year time frame, the next Tesla will be faster. The goal of the Mission E is to do the Nordschleife in under 8 minutes. This sounds amazing at first but isn't that amazing really. The 2.2 ton Panamera Turbo S did the Nordschleife in under 8 minutes and if Porsche keeps the weight of the Mission E under 2.2 or 2.3 tons, I do not see the reason why the Mission E shouldn't achieve this goal. The weight of the car will require the usage of light weight materials and believe me when I say that the top version of the Mission E will be easily more expensive than the 150k I mentioned. Actually, a fully optioned car is rumored to hit 250k. Ouch.

I am not aware of two different versions (500 km and 600 hp versions you mentioned), I am aware of the top version only and this one already has a 500 km range goal (of course not if you use the full power Smiley). It doesn't take a genius to assume that Porsche is going to offer a cheaper, more "down-to-earth" version of the Mission E at some point but looking at the current Panamera eHybrid price, I doubt that you'll see this car for under 120k.

I am ready to bet a lunch at Christophorus on that and keep in mind that I love steaks (I will bring an appetite). Smiley

The J1 is not comparable with the Panamera since it is an electric car. You may confuse it with he smaller Panamera but the Mission E is not that. Apparently Porsche will use a VW platform for the smaller Panamera, the Mission E will get a different platform.

If they can make the Mission E more fun to drive than the Panamera, they won. 300+ real miles range would be real nice. Even better is if they made the same thing in the Macan shell, I would totally buy one angry

I doubt it. The weight will be similar. Maybe the Mission E will be more fun to drive because of the tech but this would be similar to the Tesla. The only thing I like about the Tesla P85d is the performance and the whole gadgetry/software stuff inside the car. Would I buy a Tesla S as a daily commuter? Certainly, why not?! As a weekend toy car just for fun? Never ever.

Lower center of gravity? No big heavy engine in the front? More torque from 0? It could be more fun...

Just had another look at the Tesla, their interior is really a shame for the price of their cars...

Maybe. Let's see what Porsche can do but keep in mind that Tesla is already ahead of every other manufacturer. I do not see how Porsche could "beat" Tesla right now, especially not with the 700 Mio. they want to invest. The Panamera development was 1.2 billion as far as I heard.

Just had another look at the Tesla, their interior is really a shame for the price of their cars...

You can get a very luxurious leather interior for the P85d but I agree, the quality needs a bit of a bump. The tech inside the car however is amazing (for a car), I love it. Played around an hour with the tech, drove the car only half an hour. Smiley

Sorry but even the nicest Tesla interior doesn't come close to my Macan... It's actually even worse than our 2003 Cayenne turbo...

If you are referring to the quality impression, it is somewhere between a Cayenne and my Jeep GC SRT. The Macan is slightly worse than the Cayenne, especially regarding plastic parts but the difference isn't always obvious.

I am comparing to a fully optioned (full leather, carbon, etc.) Tesla P85d. The design is a different story, not a fan of the simplistic design of the interior and the steering wheel looks cheap as well. I guess the interior design could benefit from an overhaul at some point...

I was two days ago at Christophorus, the steak isn´t bad. The best in Stuttgart area.

Ok I put my informations (not all) on the table:
    - two models
    - one for 500 km range - price range 70.000 € netto
    - one with 600 hp - price range 140.000 € netto
    - J1 is lower positioned then Panamera

So please make a photo and lets talk in 3-4 years about this.

It is totally clear, that all informations we share today are planned numbers. But between planned 140.000 € and 250.000 € (your speculation) is a huge gap. In 3-4 years a lot can happen. The market could change, we can have a collapse of economy, a war, ...
But for sure you are wrong placing that car so high in price.

The prime rib tastes very good, you can order one for me. SmileySmileySmiley

In 4 years the base 911 and Panamera will be over $100k at this rate so who knows (insert a bit of sarcasm here).

Re: Mission E Video (hope it's not a repost)

Adnan, I remember the bet, don't worry. I love Christophorus. We can also meet in Munich instead when you are there, this is planned anyway. Smiley

So far I know only of one model but it makes sense to offer a cheaper base model.

I agree with SciFrog, I do not think that 70k EUR plus VAT is sustainable for such a car and a Porsche but we will see.

I also can't believe that Porsche will make an electric car of the future with all that tech and fancy interior for the price of a diesel Audi A6.

Re: Mission E Video (hope it's not a repost)

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Porsche were not going to make a profit with this car. They were going to use it as a "loss leader".

For those that want to take long (cross country) trips.

I might give up my Panamera for a Mission E and then switch out to an AWD Bentley for trips.

OTOH, I might stay in the Panamera fold.  All depends on personal preference/convenience.

    The cheapest Panamera start at 70.000 € net - J1 basis model starts at 70.000 € net - Tesla S 70d starts at 70.000 € net

    Panamera turbo starts at 122.000 € net  - J1 top model starts at 140.000 € net - Tesla S P90d starts at 111.000 €

And J1 is smaller then Panamera or Tesla S. If you take a look what makes an EV expensive - the batteries. In 4 years they will be much cheaper then today.

I would be tempted by a P90D as well, however Tesla has decided in their infinite wisdom to equip all Model S windshields with radar-wave-proof metallic coatings with no peep holes.  I guess they don't want even a single extra sunshine photon to stress the air conditioning system and reduce their range by 27 feet.

I hope Porsche doesn't make the same mistake, or to the same degree.
