Re: What production date starts XM Radio as standard on the

I didn't know that the Sat radio was going to be an option in 2007. Have you heard that it is?

Re: What production date starts XM Radio as standard on the

Very nice post on installing a Sat radio.

    Standard??? Are you crazy???

Porsche have bought a license to install XM equipment in their cars and it may well be available for 08 model year cars. But standard? Come on! Porsche will more likely charge an arm and a leg for this option and likely bundle it with Nav or some other piece of crap that you don't want or need.

Hey given that I like XM, Nav and others I guess I will buy all that crap.

    Re: Standard??? Are you crazy???

Porsche already installs XM in the SUV so I would think it is a matter of time before they put the option in their other cars.

Re: What production date starts XM Radio as standa

I'm trying to get my local dealer (in NYC) to do this from your link posted. Question is, most dealers know nothing about this and it dosen't seem to be approved by Porsche. None the less, I really want this in my car. One of the concerns my dealer has in trying to help me with this is that my PCM head unit does not have a SAT button? I think on some 997's shipped later than mine (in 06), have a botton for the PCM unit to recognize the hook up. In the last photo, I can't see if you have this button or not. Can you please provide more detail?

Re: What production date starts XM Radio as standa

I have an 06 997 and I had the Sat option installed in my car. None of the 997s that I know of have a SAT button. To get to SAT radio I just hit the radio button and it goes from AM to FM to SAT to AM. Mine was installed by my dealer and I simply love it. I have the XM option but I'm sure the Sirrus is just as nice.

Re: What production date starts XM Radio as standa

Here is a pic of mine and in the upper left corner you can see my AM FM button.

Re: What production date starts XM Radio as standa

bstew, thanks for clarifying. was this a factory option or done after delivery? if fo, what was the code used. great to know that xm is available now. do you recall whether you had to have PCM in order to get it? looks great.

Re: What production date starts XM Radio as standa

daedton: What part of Colorado are you in? When I asked my dealer about installing the SAT kit from the Cayenne in my '06 997 they said they would not do it. The service writer gave me a "story" that PCNA has reported that the retrofit of the Cayenne kit into a 997 causes the PCM to "fry." I don't believe it at all. I just think my dealer if very conservative.

I joined PCA last fall and will be joining the local region club so I can finally talk with other enthusiasts and hopefully learn of a local (Denver) dealer or shop that is willing to do the SAT retrofit.

I'm in Boulder. I have a good relationship with Stevenson

HAhahahah... Stevinson Imports is the dealer I bought my 997 from, and they are the ones who won't do the SAT install. Justin Underwood is my service writer. If you get any farther, and actually have them do the install please let me know so I can go back and say "Hey, I want that too!"

As an aside I did have a little bit of trouble with them. I had some issues with my window tint, which I bought through them, which made them send the car back to the tint shop. Some where in that process my seat was "cut". Originally they did not want to do anything about it, then they sent it to their leather guy who pretty much just sanded the heck out of the seat so much that about a 12" x 4" section of the seat had no grain. This caused a big battle. After getting a friend of mine involved who knows the radio DJ Mike Rosen (850 KOA) who is a spokesman for Stevinson then things got fixed. They ultimately swapped a seat from another lot car with mine.

No mine was after delivery. There was no option for my 06' 997. My car had the PCM and Nav already before I got the Sat radio. Mine is the kit for the Cayenne. I would think that whenever Porsche starts offering it there will be a new radio button that says FM/AM/Sat or something like that.
