    Atomic80 on hardwiring V1

In a recent post, you mentioned you had your V1 "connected to a switched output in the fusebox." Can you explain the process a bit more? Did you use a fuse not-hot when ignition off...then which fuse did you use to combine with V1 red-wire?? I guess for the ground, you just picked any bolt under the dash?? If you did not use a fuse, then what exactly do you mean by switched output in the fuse box??

I like your idea better than going into the rearview mirror wires which seems a bit more complicated. thanks...

I know your question is directed to atomic80 but I can tell you my experience installing a passport in my 2005 997S. Your turbo install should not change anything and the Valentine can be installed the same way. ......First off I installed my passport with suction cups just to the right of rear view mirror. I did not cut into any wires directly above mirror where the map lamps are because I prefer to just "tuck" the main wire to detector gently up into the headliner with a credit card (it will stay in place and not be visable). This wire runs up along the windshield and then down the driver side pillar to the fuse box. At the fuse box you need to find an empty slot that will not be hot with the ignition key off. I simply used the rear wiper fuse terminal because it was empty (not installed on my car). You will find a ground in close proximity to fuse box where you simply look for a metal bolt/screw that is in contact with metal. I went this route because it was easy and I did not "disturb" anything more than the fuse box. I am sure atomic80 can help you if you go a different route. Hope this helps.

    Re: Atomic80 on hardwiring V1

tuck wire along piller between winshield and (looking at first photo) you want to tuck wire under black rubber weatherstripping (see first photo) and you have the transition from pillar to fuse box with no wire in sight. Now look at fuse box and you can see where I connected the hot line. The ground (if a remember correctly) is behind the fuse box (pick a screw that contacts metal body of car). Thats it.

    Re: Atomic80 on hardwiring V1

I just uploaded a more detailed photo of my fuse box. Go to valantine hardwire thread to see it. I have used this set up for 2 years with no problems or issues. Good luck!

    Re: Atomic80 on hardwiring V1

Hey, thanks much...have several times been on the highway and stupidedly forgot to turn the V1 on...bad, very bad. Will hardwire it today.

    Re: Atomic80 on hardwiring V1

Ground wire...where did you attach yours to....you surely didn't pull out the fuse box. Did you find a screw near by. I see a bunch big bolts way up under the dash but if a convenient ground screw can be found that would be nice.

While I don't drive a Porsche yet I did a very similar install on my GTI. I found the simplest thing to do was wire my ground wire to the ground for the sunroof motor. If you have a sunroof I would suggest this route. Others with P cars may have other suggestions

John, I sent you a pm.

    Re: Atomic80 on hardwiring V1

Sorry I haven't been able to answer your question, John. I kept meaning to reply to your PM. In any case, I couldn't tell you which fuse was used because the shop did it when they installed the SRX.
