4trac:Gnil:I showed the car to my wife with the idea we change her Mini Clubman JCW for the Yaris GR.
She said : No way. Are you mad or what ? I insisted explaining how special and cool the car is . She said : It looks like it is made for teenagers boys. Never will I be seen in that thing.
Haha, just did the same thing, and my wife said "that could replace my (9 yr old) STi Subaru! Looks like a perfect city car and winter beater..." But, she is by now used to compliments from teenage boys on her STi hatchback... and she would be well older than your wife... different car cultures for sure though between us and CH.
Not sure why Toyota decided so quickly not to bring it to NA; could be something they know will not pass certification.
Your wife has car culture, mine doesn't I once bought her a Subaru Forester, the one with the STI engine. After 3 month she asked me to sell it
With the mini she does not get compliments about the car but she does get compliments about her , she likes that

spudgun:Tried too with the wife but she started laughing. 🤷🏼♂️
Mine looked at me as if I went nuts... She didn't even bother to comment.

I tried again with this argument : Don't look at the car, the shape is not important. Drive it .
She looked at me with a blank face and said : but the looks is the most important and said again she is not a 21 year old racer boy
I have no chance to convince her

Carlos from Spain:The fact that you guys even tried to ask your wifes about getting a Yaris homologation special begs the questions, how long have you guys all been married?
![]()
Haha - in my case I am married to a petrolhead that drives a homologation special already (plus mostly drives the Turbo too...), so the question was a simple one. Ironically, I'm the only one who got a "yes", but cannot follow though with it as the Yaris will not be coming to NA.

I wasn't actually asking her...
Truth be told, I found a new toy now : My local dealer offered me a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, brand-new (car is already registered though for emissions reasons) with a pretty interesting lease offer and I may actually accept it (still waiting for the tax advisor to give the green light). When the GLC 63S goes next year, I have nothing comparable to choose from, the G63 is way too expensive for a lease (2400-2700 EUR) and my dream SUV, the Urus, is impossible to get (financially) and there are no real alternatives on the market.
If I do not take this Trackhawk now, it will be impossible to get a new one in Germany. Very difficult decision.
My son loves the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, so he agrees. It even has a valet mode (but I'm still not sure he will ever drive this thing ).
The A45 I mentioned before doesn't make much sense (only from a cost perspective), it is too small for my daily needs.
Yaris GR has moved second (or third) in priority, I care more about the Trackhawk right now.

Pretty much me as well. My wife desperately wanted a Rapide until she found out it wasn't available in a manual. "I thought Aston's were manly cars!?!" But she did have a Saab 900 SPG when I met her, in fact had never owned a automatic car before me.

When I met my wife for the very first time, she was driving a manual car. The first time she drove in my car, I had a 190E 2.6 with automatic at that time ("work" car ), she asked me why I do not shift.
I told her that this is an automatic transmission and she didn't know there are such cars.
She was never interested in cars but now she wants a 992 Turbo S Convertible.
Fits the profile.

Josef:I am going to drive the Yaris GR on Saturday, looking forward to it. Already told my wife that this could be an alternative to her Mercerdes A. As most of your wifes, she wasn't too amused but let's see
Great, be sure to give us a quick impressions.... if you say its hugely overrated then we can close down this thread.... or make it about spouses....

Half of you need to be a bit more forceful with your missus...or just have other car storage like me. 😂
I drove the “base” model last week (no LSD, no forged wheels, no PS4s) and it was insanely good! Ask me specific questions if you want to know more. But only complain I had was that you sit a bit too high and the pedals are not great for heel and toe. Would also prefer a heavier clutch but it’s sort of understandable. The model with all the performance goodies is going to be called Rallye in Australia and won’t come until April. I’ve ordered one and I cannot wait! I honestly think this is an epic car. Have not been this excited about a car since my 997.2 GT3!

DaveGordon:Booked a test drive..
Local dealer here doesn't have a car for a test-drive, maybe early next year. He says there is no demand, so no sense to offer a test-car.

Every dealer here has a car so it’s easy. I didn’t even plan on test driving but saw one in the forecourt at my local Toyota dealer and decided to check it out. We also get the 200kw/370nm tune like Japan so ours is a little faster. 0-100kmh for example is down to 5.2s. But believe me, it’s a much faster car than that. It requires a gear change to third to reach 100. The in gear acceleration in this car is the level of a 996 or 997 turbo I feel! (Probably because it’s small)

Great news! This will be perfect for all those narrow Aussie roads, where even a normal sedan feels a bit stuffed...
