    F430 vs Gallardo -- according to auto motor und sport

    There's a comparison between the F430 and the Gallardo in today's issue of "auto motor und sport" magazine.

    briefly: the F430 wins by 486 to 429 points (very clear for AMS comparisons)

    here's my translation of their conclusion:

    "never was a ferrari this sophisticated. engine, handling, driving safety, even comfortable suspension -- everything is top-notch. side airbags and lower fuel consumption would have increased the score."

    of course they like the gallardo as well, they call it a "brutal muscle man, just like a lambo should be".

    some specs:

    F430
    0-100 3.9 sec
    0-200 13.0 sec
    80-120 4.5 sec (V. gear)

    GALLARDO
    0-100 4.2 sec
    0-200 13.8 sec
    80-120 6.3 sec (V. gear)

    The V8 flat-plane crankshaft high reving engine, the RWD, the sound, the electric rear diff, weigth, looks, etc... I would choose the F430 over the Gallardo anyday, IMO that is of course.


    The only unforgivable draw back is the lack of side airbags on such an "everyday" car though (track cars or specific use cars is OK but the F430 is very usable everyday car) and not even available as optional extras. Side impacts on low sportcars are killers, especially with todays number of high and heavy SUV and trucks out there, the chasis will not proctect the head&tortso impact. Its something I cannot understand in today's times... electronic dampning for confort but no side-airbags Anybody know why Ferrari choose this BTW?

    yes. according to auto motor und sport, the murcielago gets 600 HP (+20) from his 6.2l V12 and a modified front in 2006.

    my dealer told me that the power increase will be higher (620 HP or more) and not before 2007 though.

    AMS states that the Murcielago will get *more* than 600hp... So their information is consistent with your dealer's.

    Also, the upcoming facelift will do the rest to the already weak resale value of the Gallardo

    Unfortunately, they did not do any track times.

    However, they state that the F430 is "by far" superior to the Gallardo in terms of handling. A strong statement, isn't it?

    100% agree. and this combined with this "SE", then bringing out the roadster before the facelift and then let the facelift follow shortly...

    there's also a very interesting side note in the article about the BMW Z8 successor... auto motor und sport tells that lamborghini/audi is forcing their component suppliers to BUY the gallardo from them with a discount because the sales are so bad. crazy.

    shocking..the F430 is a daily use cars? i thought its a weekend car only and the more you drive the more maintenance you face. How much does the F430 drivers pay monthly for maintenance? Btw, which one is more expensive the F430 or G. Lambo ?

    They are similarly priced, at least at MSRP. Real world is a different story. As long as the 430 (or any Ferrari) is under warranty (3 yr/unlimited miles) they are quite reasonable to own. My 360 for the first 18 months has cost about $1k for the 5k service.

    Isn't that exactly the problem of most German car manufacturers? Changing more or less important details at their cars too quickly?
    Even Porsche is no exception here, but it is extremely bad with BMW, Mercedes and Audi (=Lamborghini).
    This is one thing, I always appreciated very, very much at Ferrari, their model strategy has a constancy, that is unfortunately very seldom found nowadays.

    Actually, Ferrari and Maserati models are upgraded on a constant basis, but unlike German models, not from a MY to the next, but rather, through out the year because their production processes is not as rigorous.
    I've been told by Ferrari France that on the 360, the software received mods every now and again but that's about it, so for Ferrari you are right, however, for Maserati, it's outrageous, they are the worsts by far!
    They would change significant elements just like that, tough if you're a costumers who bought the car just before the changes, which by the way, were advertised on their website (New door panels, new cambiocorsa, etc.)
    The Coupe and Spyder have had minor facelifts almost every year! I guess it's good and bad, good bc they are striving for a better product on a constant basis, bad from a costumer management perspective.
    Currently the F430 is so successful that nothing needs to be changed, minor additional options from time to time (carbon parts, etc.) but the quality of the product is so high that there's not much to be changed really.
    Different story for the 612, after a first decent year, sales have literally stalled! Mind you, not surprising for such an ugly car, especially when you have a DB9 for almost half price. 612 is far superior dynamically but that's not the priority #1 for thoses car's costumers.

    i like the scaglietti's look a lot. not a perfect beauty, but so pure and it grows on you. DB9 is already looking boring to me. but that's just my opinion.

    612 is a little bit too expensive for me, otherwise i'd buy one!

    It has presence I agree, but to me, there's just something wrong with the proportions, having the engine between the front axle is one thing but that bonnet is so long now and almost no front overhang, weird.
    Anyway it's all subjective, what's not subjective however is the commercial failure that car is so far!!!

    Workaround is aim to hit oncoming cars front on.
