Use a air blow gun to dry your 997???

I am thinking to use a air blow gun to dry the car after it being washed. Any experience??? Any comment??? Thanks.

Re: Use a air blow gun to dry your 997???

Might be worth considering to dry off the discs and callipers?

Re: Use a air blow gun to dry your 997???

I use a leaf blower all the time...great for getting water out of all the various nooks and crannies.

Does it damage the paint by any chance

I do the same, KA and by the way, Welcome aboard Enjoy the forum. It is very informative and at times, equally as funny.

Doesn't work THAT well for drying car. Good for getting excess water out of specific places like lug nuts and calipers as already indicated.

Excellent way to get rid of brake dust between washes. wheels stay ALOT cleaner longer. BUT brake dust is supposed to be bad for lungs and paint (even now with the old asbestos threat gone).

Some people play with compressed air like it's a toy (blow off their clothes and faces). Keep in mind if a tiny piece of rust/debris loosens internally from plumbing and gets shot out of the nozzle it's going to hurt.

    that's my two cents.

don't grab your edger by mistake. welcome.

I use a blower too, works well, but you still need to towel dry. I love using it on the engine compartment, keeps it really clean.

Re: Use a air blow gun to dry your 997???

Hh, didn't you guys run across DIY essays that say using high pressure stream from garden hoses to wash your car can drive moisture into places it shouldn't normally go? E.g., you could inject water into the door, or headlight and it could stay there for a long time in non-summer months.

So, as far as compressed air or leaf blowers are concerned, I'd use a little restraint to avoid blowing water into crevices and recesses better left dry.

Re: Use a air blow gun to dry your 997???

I use a leaf blower as well but because of the concern of "sand blasting" from dust particles in the air, I place two layers of panty hose over the intake on the leaf blower. It seams to work well. I have carefully inspected the paint after each wash and I do not see any evidence of damaged paint.

LOL oh... did you mean dust particles dislodging from inside the leaf blower?

I tried my leaf blower the first time I washed my 997S and it worked okay, but even if it's clean, I worry about blowing some dirt or gravel onto the finish and scratching it. The second time I wiped it off with a micro-fiber towel and then dried it further with old and clean cotton towels that I use only for the 911. It worked just as well , didn't take me any longer to do, and I didn't have to worry about scratching the car with gravel or dirt blown around by the leaf blower. If I had a concrete or asphalt driveway, I might go back to using the blower.

Wow you must have some really bad air if you're sucking up sand particles big enough to cause harm to your paint!

Dust particles dislodgeing from the inside can be a problem which is why I only use this leaf blower for the car. I am talking about dust particles in the air drawn though the leaf blower and hitting the paint at 200mph. Perhaps I am worried for nothing but it is extra protection if you are going to use a leaf blower.
