    X51 Power Kit & Sports Shifter on a C2 997S

    Hello everyone,

    Specifying my C2 997S & am considering the X51 power kit option & Short throw shifter.

    Please, can anyone tell me if the X51 power kit makes the cabin noisy? As I understand things, one can select the sports exhaust for extra sporty noise. However if this is left switched off, does the kit make the cabin noisier than with it not fitted? Just want to be as sure as possible as there's no time to test a car with it fitted before I commit the spec as they're quite rare.

    The Sports shifter seems a good option. The OPC warned me about cold gear selection, but searching the internet, not many people seem to have suffered this.

    Any advice greatly appreciated. I'm hugely looking forward to being back in the Porsche fraternity from 2 years gap after selling my 996 C2.

    The power kit car is gruntier and rortier vis-a-vis similar exhaust system as compared to the standard 3.8l. Not sure if it is noisier but it does sounds wilder IMO.

    I'm picking up my, X51 and short shifter equipped, C2S next week so hopefully I can chime in with my impressions.

    On October of 2005 I pre-traded my 996 C4S for a brand new 2006 C2S. I spec'd the car myself and wanted the X51 option on it. I saw it as the best C2S one could get. I was extremely dissapointed when my salesman at Champion Porsche told me he got a memo from Porsche that they did not have any X51 kits available at the time with no foreseeable estimated date to get them so as to put them in cars that were being spec'd out. So, here I am with my dream car sans X51 kit. I feel shortchanged, to say the least. The question is then, is your dealer giving you the option then to add this to your car? Has anyone heard of there being any X51 kit shortages as of Jan or Feb of 2006? That's around the time my salesman allegedly got the memo. Now more than ever I feel he was nervous about me not following through with the order and having them with a highly optioned car that could prove difficult to sell. I am beginning to question his or his superiors' motives... Any insight into this issue is appreciated.

    Definitely go for short shifter, I have driven both and short shifter is worth it. As for cold starts no problems here, I'm still breaking in my car (2200km), shift is smooth as silk.

    Answering your question Cibergypsy, yes the UK dealer says the X51 is available - or rather he hasn't said it isn't available during the few days i've been deliberating - so I assume it's an option in the UK.

    To go for it or not though?!

    I only received confirmation on X51 about 2 months ago- it wasn't available from January until about May(?)

    Champion has their own version that they put on the cars right there, if I'm not mistaken. Will likely be better than the X51. Their carbon airbox with ram-air in the deck lid is beautiful... and it's a Tubi exhaust, which is possibly the best, at least aesthetically. Consider that. Those guys are usually pretty straight shooters.

    cibergypsy, mine was ordered by someone else who backed out so I got lucky. It's already here at the dealer's.

    I can say and give credit to the guys there, at Champion, because they never pushed any of their offerings to get me not to order the one from the factory, at the time I placed the order. I thought that maybe, since some people do cancel orders with the cars not being to everyone's liking and my C2S being over $100k, they might have gotten cold feet on this order. But I don't think that's the case. They have always treated me right and given me offers that nobody else has been able to match or wanted to give. I will continue to buy ALL my Porsches from them! I don't want my previous post to give a confusing representation of what my experience has been. The guys there are great. I just can't get the sour feeling of not getting my car from Stuttgart with the X51. I guess I can buy it and have the guys there install it and still have the warranty. It would have been better to have had it on the order sheet, though.

    The guys at Champion are the best I have done business with in the auto industry. They have been very helpful in all aspect of my purchase. My sales guy has told me that they get similar or better numbers than the X51 equipped cars at a fraction of the price. He also told me that if they handle the install, I wouldn't have to worry about warranty issues. They handled my sat radio install and will honor my warranty if anything should arise.

    Are you referring to the F77? What is Champion claiming for HP/torque and how much does it cost? I called them a few months ago requesting stats on their F77 performance package and they said they'd get back to me but they never did.

    They use Tubbi exhaust, headers, cats, and a remapping of the computer. When you call Champion Porsche ask for Luis in the service department, he seems to know the most over there. They also have a dyno close by so they would be able to give you before and after numbers.

    Before trading my 997S, I spoke extensively with Jessie at Champion about Tubi. He sounds very well informed and is a very patient man.
    Jesse told me that Tubi 200 cell cats were only realizing, a roughly, 2 hp gain. He did state that with the headers and mufflers, one might get 25-30 hp.(If it's true, fantastic)
    Tubi mufflers, sans tips, and headers will cost you about $4,000.00-$4,500.00, I beieve. The tips add another $600.00-$700.00. OEM tips fit but who wants those after spending 5k on an exhaust. I believe the mufflers weigh about 20 lbs. less too. Great stuff, just pricey. Of course so is the car.
    I'd love to hear how it dynos with the ECU upgrade. I'm sure they've done their homework. I've heard nothing but good things about that dealership.

    I will probably wait a few more thousand miles before I consider any upgrades. I only have 2700miles on the car now, so maybe at 10,000k I will do a little tunning. The exhaust I have in mind is AWE, but I heard the Tubbi at Champion and it sounded sweet

    I have both. Sport shifter is great. X-51 is not very loud with sport mode off. With sport mode "on" around 5000 RPM it is loud, but a sound that is absolutely wonderful. I never get tired of hearing that sound. Guess what? I think I'll go out for a quick drive now just to hear it once more before I go to bed.

    There was a problem with X51 availability earlier this year. More people ordered 911s with it than Porsche expected and they did not have enough engine parts available. Supposedly this has been fixed. I ordered an X51 C4S and getting the X51 kit delayed my order being fulfilled by about 4 months. I finally received mine in June and the car is extremely impressive.

    I just bought my 06 C2S used (4400KM/2500miles) and

    the original owner put the evolution motorsports (evoms.com) stage 3+ kit on the car. The numbers that evoms claims is similar to the X51 kit and according to the salesman that I bought it from (who is driving a 05 997C2S) the car is a little quicker. The stage 3+ kit is Headers, Exhaust, Intake, and Chip. It sounds much more aggressive then the stock set up.

    I also have the short shift and it is great.
