    thats surprising, considering that brand/product recognition & legacy are some very valuable intangible assets these 'low end' companies may have.

    It seems Toyota now has no cars that inspire enthusiasts. I think they lost something when the Supra was discontinued, but there were still fans of the Celica and it's a pretty good sporty performer in it's class. Many people got excited over it and heck, the MR-2 got a sequential gearbox. These cars weren't my favorites, but they were something.

    I owned a Celica 4WD Turbo many many years ago and the dealer took it back after around 4 months of ownership. What happened? The brakes were really really bad. They even sent an engineer from Toyota Germany and exchanged the brake pads, brake discs, I even got aftermarket wheels from BBS with better cooling and they even installed cooling ducts and a special front bumper from a Celica Rallye car to improve braking. No chance, a few fast rides on the Autobahn and the brake was "finished" again. The dealer and Toyota finally gave up and returned me my money but it was a pretty annoying story because I lost a lot of time and nerves.
    It was my first and my last japanese "sportscar" encounter.

    So I shouldn't trade my Porsche for an EVO 8 MR because I've given up hope that my mechanic will finish my car project...

    My '01 Celica GT-S has been a fine vehicle. It is a LOT of fun between 6,800 RPM and 8,300 RPM, when the rev limiter kicks in. Engaging the second set of cams is like flipping a power switch.

    I would not hesitate to recommend this vehicle to someone looking for an economical, problem-free, performance vehicle.
