RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT3's?

It was said that North America would get 750 GT3's, but at the moment only 257 have been delivered to the U.S. and 15 to Canada. A considerable number of people have said their delivery dates have been postponed and only about 28 cars are being delivered each month. Is there any factory delay you have heard about? Some people are speculating that Porsche is busy turning out the last Cup cars & RSR's to race teams and that is the reason for the delay. But at the rate of 28 per month, how are we supposed to get the 750 allocated to us? Poor sales for the first GT3 to come to the United States could mean no future (997, 998) GT3's coming here any more and that would be a sad thing. Any info you can give us?

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT3's?

I was given a February production date when I ordered my GT3 for Canada. That was a long time ago! I was recently given a production date of mid February,so that is as promised. Crawford

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT3's?

Erik, right now there is a lot of speculation regarding this issue. Another reason might be the surprising success of the GT3 RS (they need the parts ).
I try to find out more but I usually get pretty accurate Porsche Germany infos but it is difficult to get infos from PCNA. BTW: don't be too sure about allocation, allocations can change very suddenly and with the 997 showing up soon, I'm not sure all allocations of 996 narrow body based cars will be met. Of course Porsche still wants to sell the 996 but some dealers might even be afraid to order too many cars, even GT3, with the 997 just around the corner.

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT3's?

Its B.S. IMO that U.S. production is delayed due to the RS which only 200 cars are being produced for ROW.

200 cars? You must be kidding. And there is ONLY ROW.
500 cars MINIMUM, a 100-200 more very likely. And the GT3 RS is a huge success. But what do I know...

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT3's?

my dealer called me last week to tell that my car (GT3 promised for end of may) will have a 2 months delay. I will visit him this week to learn more about resons and alternatives (eventualy).

    100-200 more very likely???

i appreciate that the RS is a success and i know that porsche loves to sell cars more than anything else, but i took this "500" for granted since it was mentioned in various magazines. do you have any details about the "likely 100-200 more"?

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT

regarding this topic i just received an interesting email from the tristar GT3 mailing list:

    Quote:
An official request by Porsche GB has been sent to Germany to build a further 10 GT3 RS's. The demand for these cars has been amazing and with a number of loyal Porsche buyers missing out they are trying to obtain what will be a total of 109. Even Reading cannot guarantee a positive response to this request because Germany has the final say. It probably depends on worldwide demand and the arguments put forward by the accountants!

my guess is that PAG's accountants probably can't resist...

To my knowledge, Porsche always said that they build minimum 500 cars...

IMHO Porsche always stated minimum 200 cars. But sources (supplier for certain RS parts) talk about 500 cars.

    Cheers

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT

So what if they build more cars?
That way, more people could enjoy them..
Of course, it hurts resale value and exclusivity, but you're supposed to drive them, not to worry about resale value

I remember the press info we got and they said 500 if I'm not mistaken. I also remember some PAG guy saying that they'll build as many as demand lasts.
I don't remember the 200 cars figure at all.
    Maybe I got just old.

well it seems like you are really getting old.
You might want to check this link http://www2.uk.porsche.com/english/gbr/news/pressreleases/pag/030701_89.htm

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT

Yes, but PAG's press release says "at least 200 cars".

The problem is...I don't care much about press releases from their websites. Look at the press infos on Rennteam.com and then read them on most Porsche websites. Can you see the difference? But you're right, in some press releases they stated MINIMUM 200 cars.

I personally DREAM of a day when GT3 RSs are common sights on the road, hundreds and thousands of them delighting drivers and available used, with low mileage, in the mid-fifties.

The world longs to be a Porsche planet.

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT3's?

    Amen Brother, Amen!

Re: RC,....Do you know what the delay is for U.S. inbound GT3's?

I have been watching the discussion about deliveries of GT3's with great interest. I think mine was built this week.
Imagine my surprise when I opened the Globe and Mail [local paper]this morning to find a used 2004 GT3 for sale! Apparently it came to Canada from the U.S. It is available from a used car store in Toronto. I'm sure the listing could be found on the internet. Crawford
