    3D-Printed Seat Cushions

One cool thing at the Manthey trackday was that Porsche staff were there with a big Tequipment stand - pretty clear they are moving quickly on the integration of Manthey products.  Gets a kiss from me.

I asked them about Swiss documentation for MR stuff, and they confirmed they have the necessary docs for homolgation of 2RS and 3RS MR parts in Switzerland, with the GT4 MR / Spyder to follow shortly.

More interesting was the 3D-printed seat cushions they had on display.  These will be offered as Tequipment parts and fit any of the 'LWB' seats.  I spoke to one of the engineers and he confirmed the basic shells of the LWB seats in the 992 are the same dimensions as in the 991, with just the shoulders restyled a bit.

    They look like this:

    1625079012288IMG_1452.jpg

    1625079618527IMG_1453.jpg

They are 10% lighter than the standard cushions, and are slightly thinner under your arse so you stit a little lower, which means the side bolsters give a little more support to the legs.  Only a few mm though.

You can get them in soft, medium, and hard.  The soft ones were on the demo seat, and felt nice and comfortable.  But the cool thing was they had some medium ones they were lending out to try for a couple of hours.  This was too good to pass up.

Once in the car, they didn't feel too different from the standard ones (the demo seat felt a lot different, but we thought this was likely due to it not being in a car, and maybe at a different height.

I did a couple of laps of the ring with them, and came away with a very positive impression.  They seemed a l less bouncy in sections like Fuchsröhre where the track is very bumpy, but the main difference was that they breathed so much better, came away with a nearly dry t-shirt..

Cool product, and I told the guy I really liked that Porsche took the time to take them there, talk to customers and get some feedback.  Nice one, Porsche kiss

EDIT: they are delievered with a perforated material.. the open ones on the stand were just for show.

    Re: 3D-Printed Seat Cushions

Dave, I have a friend (in far better physical shape than I with a narrow build) who finds the LWB's too wide and unsupportive in his Touring.  You think these inserts will address this or the bolsters are still too widely spaced for someone who currently bounces around?

Yes, that pic looks more like the finished article, although the ones I had had a bigger insert/cutout where the buckle comes up from the floor.

Grant - no, these won’t do anything for those who feel the LWBs are too spacious. I floated the idea of a build based on a 3D measurement of the person, and they said that could be a rolls-royce offering in the future, maybe.

Best I can suggest for him is buy a Recaro Pole Position or even tighter, an SPX. I also tried a Podium - probably in between those two, all would suit the slimmer person.

Shame the tech is hidden in the final version, would be much cooler without the cover…

It would probably make for a funny sight when you exit the car (lots of lattice marks on the back of your thighs without the fabric Smiley)

    Re: 3D-Printed Seat Cushions

Haha. In conclusion a cool product (literally) but if they come in at 2.5k EUR - each - then too expensive for me. Maybe at a much lower incremental price at build time..
