My new wheels - thanks guys

A while back I asked what people thought about putting 20 inch wheels on my 997. Just wanted to say thanks for the advice and post a few pictures of my car. I ended up going with 20 inch HRE 840r's.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

    another....

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

WOW!!! those rims look AMAZING!!! O_O beautiful car! beautiful rims! excellent choice
    thanks for the superb pics

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Looks incredible. You probably won't see another like it.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

    NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Looks mint and they sit really well in the arches. Out of interest what offsets are the wheels and what tyre sizes did you go for?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Good luck with them. Maybe think about lowering it too.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

I believe the rear wheel has a 3 inch lip, but I don't recall the specifics of offset and tire size. I got the wheels from wheelenhancement.com; they are very knowledgeable and I'm sure they would be happy to tell you if you send them an email or give them a call.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Sweet rims. I would like to now what width and offset you went with?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

did the ride change much with the 20s?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

They look great. How much did you pay? I was looking at Black 841Rs - but in 19. I thought 20s would be too big...but they look awesome

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

those wheels make all other look terrible...

elegant, aggresive, different, stylish, maybe the best i ve seen on a 997

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

    Gorgeous rims man...great taste.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Very nice, gr8 looking car. Is this the 997S or the 997. With the S sitting a bit lower will the 20" still fit. Is your over diameter affecting your speedometer now?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Beautiful wheels, the car looks fantastic. For those concerned about weight, though, these wheels are heavier than the oem lobster wheels, even in a 19". Any of these reverse type wheels are typically heavier; especially with the 20". But the car does look hot.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Sorry, but chrome (or are they just that shiny) wheels and a Porsche (or any high performance sportscar) doesn't go together IMO.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

    Awesome!!!

Your car looks sick with those wheels!

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

    Nice wheels!

How is the ride? Is it rough enough to make you sterile?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Thanks for the compliments guys - to quickly answer your questions:

    1. Wheels are brushed steel finish; The lip is polished/chromed. In my opinion, chrome is TOO shiny......
    2. The speedometer shouldn't be affected as the diameter of the new wheel+new tire is about equal to the old wheel+old tire
    3. The car is a 997S
    4. Ride differential is barely noticeable. I drove a few people around and they said that they couldn't even notice the difference in ride quality. The car is my daily driver and I don't think it is at all a problem. Bottom line, if ride quality is your ONLY concern (I know there are others), you should definitely go with the 20's.
    5. I am thinking about getting some techart lowering springs to lower my car 1/2 an inch, but I am concerned with the ride quality of both the 20's and the drop.......

I also think the lip is a bit TOO shiney. Should been a brushed steel finish like the rest of the wheel. That would have looked awesome!!

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Don - how about pricing for wheels/tires and install?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

more importantly,--what rubber did you go with?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

How you like the 20" so far, donmega187? I also considering ordering a new set of rims for my car but I don't know if i should go 20s or not. I really like the 20in look but i don't know if it is going to me hard to maintain, I mean I am worry about changing my blowing up my tires when i hit a pot hole. Also, How does it affect performance? Can you notice a difference at all? I want to go with the Work VSKf if I am doing 20in. Thanks!

By the way, those are very nice shoes for your car but I would think if you lower your car, it will look even sharper.

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Do you know what offset they are?

Re: My new wheels - thanks guys

Although they remind me off the RS* rims they still look good.

Frankly, I would never consider 20" wheels and can not understand why anyone would apply them to this car.
A 20" wheel not only weighs more but I'm pretty confident that it will affect the speedo. I don't see how it couldn't. I would assume that the 20's bear a 25 profile tire which would result in a larger measurement than the 30 profile, right?
Regardless of the speedo issue, why would anyone want to add weight, and hence a significant weight, to a refined sportscar like the 911. Even a 19" in the afore-posted wheel (reverse drop center) will result in a heavy wheel and the 20 makes that condition worse.
Besides, even if one ignored the performance aspect, the 911 is a masterpiece and too much bling does not do it good. I, initially, held back my emotions regarding the wheels, but this is an informative forum and I had to say something. Only my opinion, hope I didn't offend many.

I look in to the speedo thing and if you are running the factory 19 with a 295/30 and you go to a 305/25 20" wheel, the speedo at 65 mph is like 64.84 mph. That not even 2 tenths of a mph difference. As for weight the XRR wheels are 24 front and 28 rear(pounds).I'm been looking at a chrome forged 20" wheel and the weight is 25 front and 29 rear. I know that is a pound heaver then 19, but it not like a huge differences. I can remember not to many years ago when 18" was too bling and heavy to be a performance rim. Hell in six years maybe Porsche will be putting 20" on the as standard equipment..

    too shiny

I think it is matter of taste. Here in Europe chrome and sportscar don fit but in US I think they fitt well.
