    Old is gold

Here are some photos of the 275 GTB4 on the Ferrari Classiche Cavalcade in the Dolomites. The peak of the 50s and 60s curvy front engined 12 cylinder Ferraris. Magnificent in every way, pushed really hard in the mountains, and performed flawlessly.

I flew in to Milan, so before going to the mountains visited the Alfa Romeo museum. Here are a few personal favourites:

    Re: Old is gold

I've always loved Alfa Romeos (pre-1975)....I learned to drive in 1963 in a Giulietta TI sedan.

    Re: Old is gold

Really love the 275 GTB4, it is a wonderful car!

I also like the Alfas, from pre war cars like the 8C 2300 Monza to the GTAs in the 60ies!

    Re: Old is gold

I had not realised just how early Alfa started and all the aviation links in the early days.

    Re: Old is gold

Weird me, on this thread, the only car that excites me is the 1938 6C 2300B MM, everything else I don't find attractive haha. Certainly not the Ferrari.

Each to his own Smiley. Having said that how many hybrid or electric vehicles ( or should I say appliances?) do you own now ?

    Re: Old is gold

I know, beauty of free market, everyone can pick and choose whatever they fancy, there are no wrong choices. wink

3 EVs and 3 hybrids now. But the GT4RS is waiting for me and the Dakar and GT3RS is ordered. Still searching for the right 928GTS. Always on the lookout for that perfect 89 Speedster.  Still in talks with my builder to build me a Ford 3 window hotrod.

I may have migrated towards the brand new world, but the oldies aren't forgotten.

Smiley. I was just teasing you. 928 on my to do list as well, and I wish I could get a 4RS allocation. I do find it amusing how all the journalists have now suddenly lost all their misgivings about the weight penalty of hybrids. I guess it’s the torque fix they get. The 296 GTB has been a revelation to me as well,  but I still would not have it over a 458 Speciale.

    Re: Old is gold

Have you heard the story about the Corvette development team at General Motors?  They originally had a Ferrari 458 as a benchmark for the new C8 Corvette. That car was replaced with a new 488.  The engineers found it so lacking in character that they convinced GM’s management to get another 458.  The last of the normally aspirated Ferrari V8s served as the inspiration for the Corvette Z06 which addresses any torque inadequacies with displacement.

Of everything I have owned, that's the one car I regret selling.

Thanks for sharing, imo the 33 Stradale is probably the most beautiful car ever designed.

    Re: Old is gold

Speaking of old Alfas, below two oldies from my family:

Nice! I had a client who restored old Alfas, he had quite the set of oldies in his garage. But alas he was a terrible client, so when the house was done I was thankful to never have to return, vintage Italian machinery and all.

    Re: Old is gold

Thanks Crayfile for posting.I don't know much about the Ferrari's of that era, but this one does indeed look beautiful.

I can just imagine the sound looking at those exhaust pipes Smiley I guess these events make it for a perfect reason to drive the car.
