Ordering Exclusive options... stupid plastic piece

    Well,
My car is here, it's actually at the bodyshop getting the colored wheel accents done because the factory didn't get around to it. I ordered about $16k in exclusive options leather and carbon everywhere...life was good. Until thanks to this forum I now realize that I have a plastic piece in front of my shifter that should be leather. Can I order this post delivery? Porsche needs to do a better job letting people know what options are available. I would have liked a leather pcm also. Oh well, my car looks great. Taking delivery friday.

Re: Ordering Exclusive options... stupid plastic piece

I don't think you can order that easily. I think you need a VIN from a car that has it in order to order it. The problem is that there are a lot of options missing from porsche's website.

This piece being one of them - as well as the PCM leather, about $2,200. I'm sure once you get your car, you'll forget about the gear trim.

congrats on the car - what colors and options? please post pics when you get it. It's all us "waiters" have to look forward to until ours comes in.

Re: Ordering Exclusive options... stupid plastic piece

Part of the problem with Porsche IS their variety of options. As a result, few dealers truly know what many options are even available. The best source of that sort of thing has always come from those who have gone before,--Rennteam and Rennlist postings.

I'm the one who has that particular gear trim on order which I was able to do because I managed to find a VIN with that particular option. It's going to take a while and I have no idea how much its going to cost me.

I do wish that it was easier for me to know about ALL the options available. I certainly didn't know about the gear trim until I found out about it thanks to the folks on this board. The "build your car" section on Porsche's website is a joke and I would definitely NOT rely on that to help you choose your options. Instead, I'd rely on the order guide either from here or from the dealership. I made quite a few options change before settling on what I though was the perfect car. I'm really nitpicking things here but I'm truly happy with the car. The only option that I wish I got was the gear trim piece. I also wish that Porsche offered a comprehensive option code that would get rid of ALL the vulcan grey pieces.

Re: Ordering Exclusive options... stupid plastic p

How did you find the VIN of a car with the option? Mine interior is ocean blue... I think that's going to be really hard for me... Why can't my dealer just order me the part and say they messed up? annoying.

Re: Ordering Exclusive options... stupid plastic p

Looks like it'll be quite a challenge for you to find someone with Ocean Blue and that particular item. I posted a thread on several Porsche sites asking if anyone had my leather trim with the gear trim. I got lucky.

I guess there's a reason why Porsche considers this an "exclusive" option. Some of the other items without the "C" at the beginning of the option code can be ordered easily. The gear grim falls under option code "CDZ" meaning that it's an "exclusive" item. Hope that makes sense.

Re: Ordering Exclusive options... stupid plastic p

No I understand. You'd just think there would be a provision in case they ordered the wrong options of forgot something. You know what.. it's a little piece of plastic. oh well.

You guys must check the Porsche Germany's website before ordering any vehicle. If you try the Car Configurator you can see all the exclusive options (except that they are in german and in euro prices, but it is not very difficult to understand, specially if you launch the 3D version of the configurator).

Wow, there is a LOT of stuff not on the U.S. site. Why on earth would Porsche NA not have everything available on the site? Fools like me would order more stuff LOL.

I gotta say though, there are some ridiculous places to put leather!

Re: Ordering Exclusive options... stupid plastic p

The German site has pictures for nearly all those exclusive options, very nicely done (still cartoonish) and FAR BETTER than our US version.

No surprise. Sheeesh. US market is big slice of the pie, don't they want more of our money?
